Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report - 04/03/19

Formby Junior Sports Club has reached three cup finals after excellent semi-final performances.

FJSC Under 12 Hotspurs Girls’ team played Rainford Rangers in the Hightown League semi-final. Bo Price gave Hotspurs the lead scoring with a glancing header from a corner in the first half.

The lead was doubled in the second half when Ellie Todino broke clear of the Rainford defenders to score with a great finish. Arianna Casson nearly added to the score before Rainford pulled one goal back. In an exciting finish Hotspurs held on to win with some very good defensive work particularly from Chloe Price.

FJSC Under 9 Boys were in action against Southport and Birkdale in the Craven Minor League’s Jim Rourke Trophy semi-final.

S. and B. opened the scoring but the Under 9’s equalised when Archie Ogden scored with a twenty-five yard free kick. It was still 1-1 until the second half. The young FJSC team put in a very determined effort and Archie Ogden scored two more goals securing a 3-1 victory.

Joint players of the match were hat trick hero Archie Ogden and Max Ryan who worked tirelessly throughout. FJSC Under 9’s will now play Town Green in the final to be played later in the season.

FJSC Under 13 Whites completed the trio of semi- final winners with a 6-5 second leg victory over Hesketh Colts Blue.

The Whites cup final opponents will be either Town Green or Ormskirk Sparta.

It was the finals of the Under 8 Craven Minor League Tournament held at Edge Hill University. FJSC Under 8’s had qualified for the finals earlier in the season and played extremely well in a very strong group of tournament final teams. The Under 8’s drew the first two matches and then defeated the eventual winners 4-2.

Unfortunately tiredness crept in and the boys lost the last two games. The team finished joint fourth, which was very commendable. FJSC scored nine goals in the competition with Owen Griffiths scoring four, Harry Nelson three and with one goal each Thomas Szabo and Niall Brennan.

FJSC Under 7’s produced a very good team performance against Phoenix. Dillon Crosby scored twice. Reuben Burke played well in goal with the defence keeping Phoenix at bay.

FJSC Under 15 Blacks won 3-1 against Burscough Dynamo to stay second in the league. FJSC Under 13 Blacks lost 7-3 to Ormskirk in the cup. There were defeats for FJSC Under 14’s and FJSC Under 12 Blacks.

FJSC GIRLS’ REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 16’s lost 6-2 to Ashtown Town after leading 2-1 at half time. Josie McIver gave FJSC the lead with a lob. Ashton drew level but Josie McIver scored again to restore FJSC’s lead before the interval. Ashton started the second half strongly and scored two quick goals to go into the lead.

The Under 16 girls tried very hard to find an equaliser and there were some very good individual performances from Simone Jones, Liberty Murphy, Annabel Gowling and Abby Hobbs. Goalkeeper Dot Russell-Gajos made some fine saves and Rachel Robinson, Aimee Hollis and Ana Waite tried to press Ashton back. Eventually Ashton got on top and added to their total with a late flurry of goals. Girl of the game for her all-round play and brace of goals was Josie McIver.

FJSC Under 14 United lost 2-1 to a resolute Churchtown in the Winter League. Freya Thornton scored.

FJSC Under 13 Real lost 4-2 to Remyca in a closely contested cup match. Ruby Houghton and Ava Lewis scored one goal apiece. Rosie Johnson shared the player of the match award with Ruby Houghton.

FJSC Under 11’s played Bootle FC. Amber Fortune scored a well-taken goal following a great run from midfield.

FJSC Under 10 Tornados played Southport Trinity in the Spring League. Isabelle Parkinson scored. Goalkeeper Joanne Mountain made a string of excellent saves. Girl of the game was Lucy Duncan.

FJSC Under 10 Rockets were in action against Rainford Rangers also in the Spring League. Hannah Jones scored a fine goal.

FJSC Under 8 Galaxy had a very entertaining game with Ormskirk. Faith McClelland and Lucy Gilbertson worked tirelessly in midfield. Lily Stevens and Sylvie Rhymes played well in defence and passed the ball well. The scorers for Galaxy were Milla Johnson, Amelia Scott and girl of the game Ella Foster.
