Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks report 28th January

Only a few Formby Junior Sports Club Representative team matches were played last Sunday. This was due to severe gale force winds and waterlogged pitches. On Saturday all the club’s Inter Club games and coaching sessions went ahead as planned.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 18 Girls played Cadley in the West Lancs Girls’ League. Anna Rutherford opened the scoring in the first five minutes with a terrific first time strike from outside the box and followed it up with two more goals in the second half to complete a fine hat trick. The last of which was a penalty won by Rachelle Douras-Hanlon. Charlotte Doyle linked the play up well in attack and Ana Waite had a very good match in defence and midfield.

In the Bootle League FJSC Under 16’s drew 2-2 with AFC Kirkby.

FJSC Under 15 played Silcox Villa in the first round of the Bootle League Cup. The match was played in a 60 mph gale. Playing against the wind in the first half the FJSC team adapted to the conditions extremely well and took the lead when Billy Steel scored with a calm finish. A second goal soon followed when a Henry Forsyth twenty-yard shot found the Silcox net. In the second half there was a mix up by the Silcox defence, which led to an own goal to give FJSC a three- goal lead. Billy Steel scored the fourth with a superb chip following excellent play by Jack Lemmens. Silcox Villa replied with a goal before Billy Steel completed his hat trick with another great finish. Will Neave completed the scoring with a sixth goal. It was an excellent team performance particularly as FJSC played the entire match with only ten players. The whole team collectively received the man of the match award.

In the Craven Minor League FJSC Under 10 Blacks braved the conditions against Redgate Yellow. Man of the match for the Blacks was Dan Mortimer.

FJSC Under 9’s were in action against Hesketh Colts Reds and played particularly well in the second half. The goal scorers were Dominic Maxwell, James Cook, Jack Finnegan and Max Hall.

FJSC Under 7’s played Southport and Ainsdale Amateurs. Zak Healy scored the goals, Beau Weston made some fantastic second half saves in goal and man of the match was Bobby Friar.

Well done to all the boys and girls who played on Sunday in extremely difficult weather conditions. A special thank you to the parents for cheering on all the children. Standing on the spot on the touchline was a task in itself.

There were no Hightown Girls’ League matches played due to the weather.

INTER CLUB FOOTBALL

There was a very good attendance at Inter Club last Saturday morning with all groups having some great games of football. All the coaching sessions went well with all the children showing tremendous enthusiasm and improved levels of skill could be seen in all age groups.
