Hightown man jailed for head-butting his pensioner next door neighbour

Update:

Following on from the attack of a Hightown pensioner, Keith Blundell, 53, of Elvington Road in Hightown, has been jailed at Sefton Magistrates' Court for 6 months after previously pleading guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm to 76 year old, Francis McClean

Original Story:

A Pensioner was knocked unconscious without warning by his drunken neighbour on 19th May leaving him covered in blood and unconscious.

A 76-year-old man from Hightown was head-butted in the face without warning by his next door neighbour. He was left unconscious and covered in blood.

The 76-year-old victim, Francis McClean was trying to do his neighbour a favour when he knocked on his door to tell him that he had left his garden hose on. No words were even said, when 53-year-old, Keith Blundell headbutted him in the face. Francis McClean said that he must have fell back and blacked out for a couple of seconds. He staggered back to his home bleeding heavily and called for help from his wife. Mr McClean struggled to stem the bleeding and was in hospital until around 2am.

The 76-year-old victim, Francis McClean said: "I awoke to find him stood over me just staring at me, I could only describe the look on his face as pure evil." Mr McClean, who takes the blood thinning medication Warfarin, was left with a gash on his forehead and below his eye and says he feels lucky to be alive.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "A man was charged with assault following an incident in Hightown on Saturday 19 May. Keith Blundell, 53 years, of Elvington Road was charged with assault following a report a 73-year-old man was assaulted on Elvington Road shortly after 10.35am."

"The victim sustained a facial injury after reportedly being head-butted to the face. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged. Blundell was bailed to appear at South Sefton Magistrates Court on Wednesday 6 June 2018."

Keith Blundell, of Elvington Road in Hightown, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm at Sefton Magistrates' Court yesterday, Wednesday 6th June.

The pensioner said: "This incident made me fearful for my life. At my age a bang on the head could have killed me. Having lived here for 42 years I now live in fear of him returning home. I fear one way or the other Keith will kill me."

Graham Halliwell, defending, asked magistrates to adjourn the case for pre-sentence reports to be prepared. He said his client had no previous convictions and could not explain why he had assaulted Mr McClean.

The sentence was adjourned until July 3rd and Keith Blundell was released on bail with conditions not to approach or contact his neighbour.
