Southport Armed Forces Day Sunday 1st July



Local SSAFA (The Armed Forces Charity) Veterans based at RAF Woodvale are preparing to hold this years Armed Forces Day event at the Town Hall (Princess Diana Memorial Gardens) in front of the Southport Town Hall. They are very proud to be organising it again this year and are gearing up for the big day.

Starting the event off with a Drumhead Service at 10:00 am in the Town Hall Gardens (Princess Diana memorial Gardens)

Parade with The Band of the King’s Division starting at 10:30 am on Chapel Street and heading up Hoghton Street, Hill Street on to Lord Street Taking the salute at Southport Town Hall.

SSAFA charity will have a stall selling merchandise to raise funds for veterans, along with information.

There will be modern and vintage military vehicles in front of the Atkinson. Army, Air and Sea cadets & their band, along with the military vehicles. There will also be vintage live music from the George Formby Band, including The United Voices Choir, The Just Voices Choir, The Ukulele Minstrels,

Living history group WW2 British Medical Aid Post One is one of the static displays and The Cheshire Home guard group.


All Veterans are welcome including any in wheelchairs & scooters. If you have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces regulars and reservists of all ages can take part in the para

A veteran is anyone who has served in the HM Armed Forces at any time (including National Servicemen, Regulars and Reserves). Armed Forces Day celebrates their continued role within the military community.


There will be a life size Sopwith Camel plane in the Town Hall Gardens for Southport’s Armed Forces Day. It is a single seat biplane fighter aircraft and was introduced on the western front in 1917 along with a living history 1st Aid post and the Cheshire Home guard. 156 Regiment The Royal Logistic Corps 238 SQN will be setting up their Field kitchen in the gardens and will be surving up a curry for their troops. They will also be selling portions to the public if they would like a taste of Army food. 103 Regiment Royal Artillery will be displaying their 105 mm light gun and 6 wheel Pinzgaueer.

Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career to ensure that should their country require them, they would be ready to serve.

An annual Reserves Day celebrates their contribution to the Armed Forces. Reserves Day is the Wednesday ahead of Armed Forces Day – 25th June.


The Cadet Forces (Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Cadets and the Combined Cadet Force) currently support over 130,000 young people in more than 3,000 locations across the UK. Cadets learn life and career building skills as well as gaining vocational qualifications.


Our Armed Forces couldn’t do their job without the incredible support of their family and friends.

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets. There are many ways for people, communities and organisations across the country to show their support and get involved, from attending an event or joining us online to throwing a party or local event.
