The Queen of Form-bee!

Formby Library is the very first public Library to have Her Majesty the Queen Bee resident in their new hives, creating a legacy for Formb-ee! The library staff were lucky to spot the new queen. If you think you’re having a bad day, this queen will be laying up to 2,000 eggs a day over the month of May!

Beehives and Bookworms is a lottery funded project hosted by Sefton Libraries to run free workshops, courses, talks and exhibitions about our local bees and environment. Check out their website: www.beehivesandbookworms.co.uk A spokesperson for the library said: "The bee hive in Formby Library garden was opened a few weeks ago and we are delighted to report that the bees are thriving and are now making Formby Library honey. Currently, it’s mostly from dandelion nectar! We are collecting all the dandelion seed to sow later in the year. They produce so much pollen and nectar for bees when not much else is out."

"Come and learn the practical side of beekeeping - put a beesuit and gloves on and check the hive with us." "Or you could learn how to make products with honey and wax like lip balms and candles at our 2018 workshop plan. All free, all welcome!" Formby Library are looking for volunteers to help with the weekly hive checks which usually take place on Thursday lunchtimes – all clothing and equipment will be provided.
