Liverpool fans left on an epic journey today from Formby to Kiev
Liverpool are set to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final, with thousands of fans expected to make the trip to Kiev.
With super pricey flights and over booked hotels, Liverpool super fan Simon Davies decided to embark on a 1,760 mile trip from Formby to Kiev to catch the Champions League final. He had no trouble filling the mini bus!
Simon and five others left on their epic journey today, Thursday 24th May, from Formby to Kiev. They left with a big send off from the brilliant Riva Lounge in Formby Village at 12 noon.
Here is a link to the video when they left Formby at the Riva Lounge:
Simon Davies, CEO of Formby based executive taxi travel company, World Class Travelling said: "It's a good job I'm the CEO, If we were paying for the taxi's, it would probably cost us tens of thousands of pounds. We have followed Liverpool before on many occasions and this one just feels bigger than before."
"We will be recording this epic journey on social media, so watch this space. It will also let our families know we are safe as we cross the border into The Ukraine."
Some people are travelling on a coach from Liverpool leaving on the Thursday and returning hours after the game. Thousands are doing day trips from all Liverpool, Manchester or London, while some fans have decided to travel via Dubai because it was cheaper going there and all the way back, than travelling through Europe.
A lot of fans are travelling to parts of Poland and then getting connecting flights. Lublin, Warsaw and Krakow are some of the most popular choices. Some are also going to Poland and getting overnight sleeper trains from Warsaw and arriving into Kyiv on the morning of the game.
Liverpool fans will be seated in blocks 37-55 and 40-56 in the north stand - the nearest entrance to the away fans’ sector in the stadium is from Esplanadna and Saksahanskogo streets.
The website reads: "We are trying to spread the word for those fans travelling to the final game in Kiev that a large community of Ukrainian soccer fans and regular people have come together to offer free housing to fans, as Ukrainians are appalled by the skyrocketing hotel prices and last-minute cancellations in Kiev over the course of the final game."
Simon and his team also featured on Granada Reports tonight, watch it here:- https://www.facebook.com/granadareports
Safe journey to Simon and his team and indeed to anyone that is making the journey to Kiev.
