Formby woman is off to Nepal in aid of 'Moving Mountains' charity
A Formby woman is off to Nepal in aid of the Moving Mountains charity. Chrissie Thorburn has already raised over £240 but has a target of £1,400 to reach.
Here is her story in her own words....
My name is Chrissie Thorburn. I am a 2nd year medical student currently studying at the University of Bristol, but my hometown is Formby.
I'm honoured to have been given the opportunity to go to Nepal for 3 weeks this summer to work in medical clinics in two rural villages (Bumburi & Bupsa) in the Himalayan mountains as part of the charity, Moving Mountains.
I am raising money for medication and equipment needed for the medical camps.
To raise money and challenge myself, I did the Bristol 5K Tough Mudder!
I am doing this trip first and foremost because I want to help people who do not have the resources, or accessibility to the resources, that I have. Additionally, this trip will help my communication skills, especially with people whose language I do not speak or have difficulty communicating.
As a medical student (and therefore a future doctor) communication is essential to forging connections and links with patients and families – so for me it will be valuable experience in developing effective communication and interactions.
The trip will also enhance my confidence in my own abilities and skills not just in communication but for practical clinical skills too, such as taking blood pressure, measuring heart rate and other baseline clinical parameters.
This is a link to my fundraising page where you can find out more information about the trip and what I will be doing in Nepal:
I was hoping to raise awareness of the Moving Mountains cause and to help me reach my target of £1400 and also I am happy to babysit/dogsit for donations.
100% of the donations goes towards supplies for the medical camps.
