Sinkhole in Formby still causing traffic chaos near the bypass
A sinkhole has caused traffic chaos for commuters using the Formby Bypass and Altcar Road at the junction of Burlington Avenue for three days now.
Sefton Council have been carrying out emergency repair works which are still ongoing at the moment. The repairs were meant to be complete today, Thursday 15th February but as of this morning, there is still a big gaping hole in the road.
Motorists have been warned of queuing traffic over the last few days after a manhole collapsed on Altcar Road near the bypass on Tuesday 13th February.
Temporary traffic lights were put in place and workers have been repairing the hole ever since to replace the manhole.
On Tuesday 13th, Traffic reporting website INRIX said: “There is queueing traffic due to collapsed manhole on B5195 Altcar Road near A565 Formby By-Pass. There are temporary traffic lights in place until the Council can come out and put barriers up and replace the manhole.”
Merseyside Police took to Twitter to confirm the news. They said: “Altcar Road at the junction of Burlington Avenue in Formby has been closed due to a large hole in the carriageway. The council are aware and dealing. This may cause significant delays to journeys during rush hour. Please avoid the area and find an alternative route.”
We will keep you updated on the situation.
