Formby man Running 2017 miles in 2017 to help change lives for Children with Cancer UK raising over
Formby man, now known as the Marathon Man has raised over £7,000 for charity and ran in 14 marathons, 47 half marathons and an ultra marathon.
It all started in 2016 when Scott Montgomery who is 36, completed the 1000 mile challenge in 8 months and 11 days, crossing the finish-line at the Great North Run. Raising money for Roy Castle Lung Foundation and Steps Charity Worldwide.
Scott said: "In 2017, I wanted to go one step further and run 2017 miles and dedicate 1 year to Children With Cancer Charity. A journey that would see me run 3 marathons in April 2017. The Manchester Marathon, Paris Marathon, London Marathon, Liverpool Marathon, Chester Marathon, Berlin Marathon, New York Marathon. With others to be added throughout the year."
"I was watching Stand Up To Cancer on Ch4 and watched the tragic story about Robbie who was just 10 years old that lost his fight to cancer. His poor father Mark not only lost his son but he also lost his wife a few years earlier. Then the poor story of Jessica Whelan who is fighting Neuroblastoma, such a brave and inspirational little girl and sadly coming to the end of her fight. I'm dedicating 1 year to Children With Cancer to help beat cancer."
"Having a 2-year-old daughter myself, its unimaginable to think what these kids and families are going through. These stories hit me hard. Almost 12 months later and 47 half marathons, 14 marathons and 1 ultra marathon completed, I only have 249 miles to go!"
Last year, Scott joined The Penny Lane Striders and also ran 1000 miles for Steps Charity who help children with lower limb conditions, after his daughter was born with hip dysplasia. Scott said: “You can either sit back and watch the news and do nothing, or you can get up and something. With your donation, you can help save a child's life. Every £1 raised, helps make a huge difference to children living with cancer."
"My New Years resolution is almost complete. Over £7,000 has been raised along the way. So this is my final push. Please Text CHWC99 £5 70070 This Christmas, do something amazing and help save a life. Your donation counts. Please check out my JustGiving Page for Children with Cancer UK.
