There were a number of highlights last weekend at Formby Junior Sports Club.

In the Boys’ Craven Minor League, FJSC Under 12’s Whites reached the cup final; FJSC Under 14 Blacks and FJSC Under 15 Blacks won through to the semi-finals of their respective divisions and FJSC Under 9 Blacks won an exciting cup-tie against FJSC Under 9 Whites.

FJSC Under 14 Jets win their first Hightown Girls’ League match of the season whilst FJSC Under 13’s United gain an excellent draw against Under 14 league leaders and FJSC’s two Under 12 teams Albion and Real gain victories.

In the Inter Club Section one hundred and fifteen girls attended last Saturday. This is a new Inter Club record for the girls. Also a large number of new children of all ages came along to Inter Club for the first time.

BOYS’ REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 12 Whites won 7 nil against Southport Trinity Whites to reach the John Disley Cup Final. There were goals for Jake McNeight, Bailey Jones, Matteo Heaney and man of the match Luke Honour. Joe Cunliffe also played well and goalkeeper Ben Marsh kept a clean sheet.

In the same competition FJSC Under 12 Blacks tried hard to make it an all FJSC final but eventually lost 5-2 to Southport Trinity Black. Jacob Lewis and Thomas Walker scored one goal each. Man of the match for making a number of very good saves was goalkeeper Taylor Twentyman. Tom Rimmer played very well in defence.

FJSC Under 15 Blacks won 9 nil in their quarter-final match against Southport FC. Cameron Sergison scored a hat trick and there were two goals each for Sam Kendrick and Callum Richmond. Man of the match right-winger Michael Hughes and Sam Riley completed the scoring with one goal apiece. FJSC Under 14 Blacks also played well to reach the Maric Cup semi-final gaining a narrow 4-3 victory over Burscough Dynamo. The Blacks now play Southport Trinity Whites.

Also in cup action were a number of other FJSC teams.

FJSC Under 13 Whites lost 4-3 to Phoenix in a closely contested cup-tie.

FJSC Under 11 Blacks lost 3-1 to Southport Blacks. It was a very good effort by the Blacks. Jack Yarwood equalised after Southport had taken an early lead. The FJSC team pressed forward in search of the all important next goal but Southport held firm and went on to score two second half goals to seal victory. Andy Ryan played well as did Oliver Charnock and Dylan Riley. Man of the match was Jack Yarwood.

FJSC Under 10 Whites produced one of their best performances of the season against Churchtown Lions. Churchtown took the lead but the Whites captain Jake Stanton equalised before half time. Churchtown swept into a 4-1 lead before two goals from long shots scored by Jamie Simpson and Corey Ashworth made it 3-4. Unfortunately it was just too late to get a fourth goal.

FJSC Under 10 Blacks lost to Churchtown Tigers but FJSC Under 9’s Rangers won 5 nil in their cup match against Redgate Green.

FJSC Under 9 Whites played FJSC Under 9 Blacks also in the cup. It was a great end to-end match between the two teams. Ivan Weights scored for the Whites but three goals all scored by the Blacks in the second half from Jake Verinder, Dan Mortimer and Finley Richards settled the outcome in favour of the Blacks. Man of the match for the Blacks was Thomas Dent. Playing well in their instructed positions were Liam Kirk, Micky Denison, Harry Lofthouse, Aaron Rymill and Fraser Holloway. The Whites man of the match was defender Alfie Griffiths.

The two FJSC Under 8 teams also played on Sunday. There was a high quality game played between FJSC Under 8 Blacks and Southport FC. In a very even match Archie Ogden, Jack Finnegan and Jacob Lynch scored. Man of the match was Freddie Garvey.

In another very entertaining match FJSC Under 8 Whites played Redgate Yellow. There was some good passing and teamwork shown by the two teams. On target with goals for the Whites were Dominic Maxwell, Jamie Jawook, Daniel Allmark and Joseph Frost. The man of the match award was shared three-ways by Jamie Jawook, Daniel Allmark and Dominic Maxwell.

GIRLS’ REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

In the Hightown Girls’ League FJSC Under 14 Jets won their first match of the season. Simone Jones gave the Jets the lead after good work by Jess Dolan. Maghull drew level. The Jets continued to play with confidence and with just ten minutes remaining the team’s efforts were rewarded with a winning goal again scored by Simone Jones following in to steer home a brilliant cross from Katie Leech.

FJSC Under 13’s United played unbeaten league leaders Town Green in the Under 13/14 Division. United stunned their older opponents when they leapt into a two nil lead courtesy of an Erin Denison shot and a Lauren Holden header. Town Green clawed their way back to level at 2-2 with a last minute equaliser. Evie Stanbrook was the girl of the game. All the United team played exceptionally well.

FJSC Under 13 Rangers produced a determined display against Rainford Rangers but lost 4-1. Mollie Murphy tackled well in defence.

FJSC Under 12’s Albion kept up their one hundred per cent record with a 9 nil win over Dynamo Rangers. Aaliyah Turner and Yasmin Jones scored four goals each with Lucy Rimmer completing the scoring with a single goal. Pippa Gowling was the player of the game.

It was also a good day for FJSC Under 12’s Real. Jasmin Stevens scored the only goal of the match against Crosby Stuart after a very good assist from Emily Ball. Goalkeeper Rosie Johnson made a fantastic save to help maintain Real’s lead until the final whistle. Ava Lewis produced a fine display in defence and midfield and was the girl of the match.

FJSC Under 11 Hotspurs played Rainford Rangers and produced another very impressive team display. Lottie Atherton was captain for the day. Scoring for Hotspurs in the first Winter League fixture were Ellie Todino, Izzy Conway, Chloe Price, Bo Price, Arianna Casson and Paige Leather.

No report has been received for FJSC’s Under 11 Valencia’s match.

FJSC Atletico Under 10’s played well against Newton FC. Macey Taylor and Mae Phillips scored. Kiera O’ Rourke provided a number of good passes to the strikers.

FJSC Under 9 Rockets gave a good account of themselves against Churchtown Under 10’s. Florence Raikes and Harriet Tunley scored for the Rockets.

There was a good match between FJSC Under 9 Tornados and Rainford Rangers. Lucy Duncan, Isabelle Parkinson and girl of the match Jess Duncan were all on target with goals.

In the Liverpool Under 15 Girls’ Champions League FJSC played Bolton County. Earlier in the season FJSC lost 4 nil to Bolton. This time it was a much closer contest. After a goalless first half Bolton scored twice to gain the lead. There were many positives for the FJSC girls with Aimee Hollis and Ana Waite playing very well in only their second matches. Freya Walsh had her best match of the season. Rachel Robinson made some great saves in goal. Player of the match for her well-timed tackles in defence was Sammy Godsall.

FJSC Under 16’s had no fixture in the West Lancs Girls’ League.

INTER CLUB FOOTBALL

A number of new children also attended for the first time bringing the morning’s total to almost two hundred and fifty.

The Reception and Year One groups are showing much improvement each week. CLUB NEWS

CONGRATULATIONS

Well done Anna Rutherford and Sophie Dixon on their selection to the Merseyside Schools’ Under 16 squad. Both girls have been members of FJSC for seven years. Anna is still only fourteen years of age.

Last week Anna and Sophie both scored for Merseyside in the 6-2 win against West Yorkshire which was played at the Stafflex Arena in Huddersfield last Tuesday evening.

Anna and Sophie were members of last season’s FJSC Under 15 West Lancs League Championship winning team and currently play for FJSC Under 16’s

CONGRATULATIONS

Well done as well to five of FJSC’s younger members who are all in Year 6 and have been selected for Sefton Schools’ Under 11’s. The girls – Isabelle Conway, Paige Leather, Bo Price, Chloe Price and Aimee Walsh all play Inter Club football each Saturday and on Sundays play for FJSC Under 11’s Hotspurs in the Hightown Girls’ League.

All five girls were members of last season’s very successful FJSC Under 10 Hotspurs team who were Hightown Girls’ League Champions. The girls all play for FJSC Hotspurs Under 11’s this season and with their other squad members have started the season extremely well.

FJSC is extremely proud of these seven girls. They are all great ambassadors for FJSC and are excellent role models for the younger girls in the club.

It is hoped to give you some information about the region and county successes of some of our boys in the next few weeks.

CLUB MEMBERSHIP

The club membership presently stands at 441. This is made up presently of 294 boys and 147 girls.

There are a number of boys and girls still to join (as they have been attending for some time) so we ask parents to complete their child’s membership/subscription as soon as possible please.

Also with quite a few children “giving football a go” before deciding to join or not, the aim for the season is to once again reach the 500 membership mark.

This would again definitely make FJSC one of the largest Junior Clubs in the Merseyside area and it is also very likely to be one of the biggest clubs, if not the biggest of its kind, in the North West of England for Girls’ Football.
