Formby Rotary Celebrate 50 Years

The Rotary Club of Formby celebrated its 50th Anniversary at its recent Charter Night. This landmark event of the Club took place at West Lancs Golf Club. Club members, past members, Rotarians from local clubs and friends and supporters of the club sat down to an excellent meal followed by a number of short speeches. The guests were then entertained by the singer, Alan Cross, who sang a selection of songs with his audience joining in.

The President, George Rodda and his wife, Lynda welcomed a number of special guests. Debbie Hodge, the President Elect of Rotary International in British Isles, District Governor Beryl Cotton and her husband, Tony and the past Chairman of Formby Parish Council, Bob McCann and his wife Susan. Also present was Jim Charnock and his wife Ann. Jim is a founder member of the club and despite poor health still supports the club when he can. During the evening Debbie Hodge presented President George with a Paul Harris Fellowship. This is the highest award Rotary can give and is awarded to Rotarians who have given service to Rotary above and beyond what is normally expected. The Club was also presented with a citation from Bob McCann on behalf of Formby Parish Council in recognition of the contribution it has made to the local community over its 50 years existence. The Parish Council had also declared the day of the Charter Evening as Formby Rotary Day.
