Pictured are two of Formby School of Dancing and Performing Arts’ star pupils. Both girls returned to the school’s Victoria Hall Theatre to take part in their recent Singing show and were a fabulous highlight to the evening.
Amelia is now finishing a years contract with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock in London’s West End where she has received many compliments on her excellent acting and singing skills, she is returning to the Formby School in September to continue her training and will be taking part in their Pantomime shortly before Christmas.
Eleanor came home from South Africa where she was working on a film called Action Point set in the 1970s in her first role as leading lady for Paramount Pictures, this will premiere in LA next March. Eleanor will also be attending the Cannes Film Festival in October for the opening night Red carpet screening of the new series Britannia to be shown on Sky.
Eleanor is also hoping to be back for “Panto” and will continue classes with the Formby school as she has had high praise from directors and fellow actors on her excellent training both on and off camera, she is a true professional and a credit to the school. This is the stuff dreams are made of but dreams can come true with the right help and support and of course a lot of hard work and dedication.
The school has had a very busy year starting with Southport Drama festival where the pupils won many places and were thrilled with their success. They then moved quickly on to Pantomime and as the school is the only one in the area to have it’s own Theatre, the girls and boys rehearsed and performed a smash hit version of Dick Whittington.
After Christmas Dancing exams ensued with five full days of Ballet, Tap and Modern resulting in over 95% gaining Distinction and the others with very high Merits. The senior girls also gained UCAS points from these excellent results helping them to move on to University. Anna Radcliffe was offered three unconditional places for a Dance Degree as her audition piece was so good and highly complimented by the audition panel. She is going to Newcastle and we wish her all the best in her new venture.
Easter brought the Drama show exclusively for Drama pupils where scenes were specially written for all the pupils to showcase their talents and this amazed and impressed all the parents, the pupils had great fun and loved performing in the relaxed atmosphere. The Ormskirk Dancing festival was also a great success resulting in the school winning the Outstanding Schools Trophy for the Third Year running, the ultimate example of team work which is the Ethos of the Formby School.
All pupils are encouraged to help and support each other in every environment they enter resulting in a very happy family atmosphere. Alice’s Adventures came next and all our Junior members took their turn to Dance, Sing and Act their way through this charming production, for many including all our pre-school,”Baby Ballerina’s” it was their first venture into the exciting world of the theatre. The Year culminated with an amazing Singing Show where many tears were wept as we said Goodbye to our seniors moving on to university, there were many highlights of course but when singing teacher and joint principal Alistair Hannah sang a farewell to the girls and boys the only sound that could be heard was the faint rustle of tissues!
The school is a second home to many of it’s pupils and they are all looking forward to returning to their classes on September 4th.
