Chris and Ann Byrne raised over £500 in a sponsored walk
Chris Byrne and his wife Ann from Byrne & Son menswear shop in Formby took part in a sponsored walk for the Stick 'n' Step charity on Saturday 27th May.
Chris and Ann said: "We wish to thank the many customers and friends who sponsored us for our charity walk. Thanks to their generosity we have raised over £500 for Stick 'n' Step, a Merseyside charity supporting children with cerebal palsy."
"We have walked the 41 miles of the Lancaster Canal in 4 stages from Preston to Tewitfield where it now terminates due to the construction of the M6 motorway."
"There are plans to restore it's original route to Kendal by the Lancaster Canal Society. This would involve locking under the motorway, which is quite a task!"
They went on to say: "We have an interest in canals, so it was an enjoyable way to raise money. We experienced a mixture of weather from heavy downpours to bright sunshine, and had a few aches and pains as we don't normally walk theses distances. Thanks again to all those who supported us."
Stick 'n' Step is giving £50 to 50 businesses as a fundraising challenge. The idea is to challenge them to see how much they can raise for the charity from that amount in a year. A spokesman from Stick 'n' Step said: "Our end goal is £150,000, which will enable us to move to new premises and help even more children with cerebral palsy."
Chris and Ann Byrne are both in their sixties. They own the well known Formby menswear shop on Church Road in Formby which has been a part of our Bubble for 53 years.
Well done to both of you!
