FRANK'S REPORT - 01/05/2017 2 May, 2017

It was the final day for Formby Junior Sports Club’s Inter Club Section last Saturday morning.

Twelve FJSC Cup Finals were played with over two hundred children taking part. Due to weekend camps for Beavers and Cubs plus absentees due to weekend holiday breaks a few children unfortunately missed the matches otherwise the attendance would have been the best of the season.

All the matches played were extremely well supported by parents, relatives and friends. The matches were all action packed and showed Inter Club at its best.

A MATCH TO REMEMBER

I was very fortunate to referee the Year Three/Four/ Five Girls’ Cup Final between the Eagles and the Magpies. The match had everything.

The Eagles swept into a 4 nil lead at half time. Magpies staged a remarkable second half comeback to lead 5-4. The Eagles then drew level at 5-5 to see the match go into extra time.

Every other Inter Club Cup Final was now completed. After a long eight months, since the start of the season, consisting of twenty-six Inter Club Saturdays, there was now only five minutes each way of extra time left to be played in the final match of the season.

With four minutes to go Magpies scored and went into a 6-5 lead. Now being watched by the entire Inter Club Girls’ Section and their parents, a total of over two hundred spectators, there was still time left for one final twist in this thrilling cup final. The Inter Club’s leading goal scorer, Eagles striker Ellie Todino scored the dramatic equaliser for a 6-6 draw in the final minute of the entire Inter Club season.

It was also Ellie’s sixth goal of the match and the goal to take her to one hundred Inter Club goals for the season. The two hat trick heroes for the Magpies – Chloe Price and Katelyn Vos also deserve special mention.

This was Inter Club at its best. Every player in both teams produced outstanding effort with no shortage of skill and determination. Centre circle half time team talks, in a huddle, by the girls themselves were observed. Every player taking a turn to be goalkeeper was the order of the day with no complaints. Sportmanship was first class. Plus there was wonderful encouragement from everyone on the touchline. All these ingredients, which were introduced when FJSC was founded in 1959, were on show and helped to create a unique Inter Club atmosphere.

Reports from every other match also received the same high praise on a memorable final day of the 2016-2017 Inter Club season.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

CUP FINALS

FJSC Under 11 Whites won the Craven Minor League Trisconi Cup Final. The team produced an outstanding display to win 1 nil against Southport Trinity Whites at Burscough FC.

FJSC’s Ellis Parry scored the all-important goal after only fifteen minutes play. The end-to-end match saw both teams create many scoring opportunities but there were no further goals. FJSC goalkeeper Ben Marsh made a string of great saves to deny Southport Trinity in the last few minutes of this pulsating match. Luke Honour, Jack Rummens, Ellis Parry and Matteo Heaney also produced excellent performances to see FJSC home to a very good cup final victory.

Joe Harrison gave FJSC Under 14’s United the lead after only seven minutes in the Maric Cup Final against Churchtown Athletic at Southport FC on Sunday. United failed to capitalise on many opportunities to increase the lead due to an outstanding display by the Churchtown goalkeeper and a very determined defence. Churchtown rallied in the second half, scored twice early on and held on for victory. It was FJSC United’s only defeat of the season, having already being crowned Premier League Champions.

FJSC lost two more cup finals at Southport FC’s ground on Bank Holiday Monday. The Under 15’s lost 4 nil to League Champions Brick Juniors in the Karen Potter Cup. Despite a very good effort against runaway Under 18 League Champions, FJSC Under 18 Blacks lost 3-1 in the Gordon Hyde-Price Final.

REPORTS ON OTHER MATCHES PLAYED

Charlotte Armstrong scored twice after Charlotte Doyle had given FJSC Under 15 Girls the lead in a 3-2 win over Euxton Villa in the West Lancs Girls’ League.

Sam Mycek and Dylan Riley scored for FJSC Under 10 Whites in a close match with Crosby Stuart. In another good game a depleted FJSC Under 9’s played well against Town Green. Jake Stanton gave the Under 9’s the lead. Man of the match for an impressive captain’s display was Josh Kenn. Conceding one goal each side of half time changed the outcome of the match.

After finishing the Craven Minor League Tournament in third place recently, FJSC Under 8 Whites continued in fine form when the team played Crosby Stuart. Ivan Weights scored a first half hat trick. Alfie Griffiths scored the goal of the match with a stunning strike from in the White’s own half. Connor Daulby was also a marksman.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks played Redgate Yellow in their last game of the season. Thomas Dent scored a spectacular goal. Koray Murray- Cakar and Aaron Rymill defended and tackled well. Man of the match was goalkeeper Harry Lofthouse.

Man of the match Dominic Maxwell, Jamie Jawook, Dylan Madeley and Jacob Lynch all scored against S. and A. Reds in very good team performance from FJSC Under 7 Whites.
