Spotmix to the rescue at Altcar Training Camp Code's Retreat Pods
Steve Hunter, project manager at the Altcar training camp was in a spot of bother needing cement for the base of the brand new ablution block for the PODS at Altcar. It was essential to get the base in so as building can commence as soon as possible if the deadline is to be met for the POD scheme to become a reality in hopefully September/October this year.
Spotmix concrete came to the rescue again when owner, Dean Tiplady (Pictured right, above with Steve Hunter) arrived on Monday 13th March with enough concrete for all three sections of the base. Dean has already supplied the concrete bases for all four PODS on the site. Well done to Spotmix! Now Steve Hunter and his team can get on with the building of the block that will provide two wet rooms, kitchen and toilet facilities for the servicemen and women.
Altcar Camp Commandant Colonel Gordon Black and Steve Hunter of the Altcar Camp PODS, are delighted at how the scheme is progressing through the very kind Donations of so many Companies and Individuals, as the whole Project has to be Self Funded.
The four PODS, that sleep two persons each, are now in place in a secluded part of the Camp and when the area is completed, hopefully by September/October this year, injured sick and wounded servicemen and women will be able to take a relaxing break and spend some time in a pleasant, secluded and secure location for military back in an environment that they had been used to, and mix and talk to serving troops and ' feel at home again ' and this will assist their rehab.
Special thanks to mention a few who have donated free are local people who have held coffee mornings and bring and buy sales, Total Timber, Spotmix Concrete, Pauls Tyres, Regent Coaches, Formby Tool Hire, plus Rotary and Masonic Institutes, Maghull Carpets, Sovini, to name but a few that have helped.
A large container was donated and this was turned into a work Shop and fund raising is now continuing to build a shower block and facilities.
For those who served and have suffered terrible injuries in conflicts, the PODS ' dream ' is becoming a reality to support them.
Steve Hunter is appealing for anyone that can help in any way to get the POD project complete. He is looking for anyone that give any spare time such as builders, plumbers, etc. He is looking for someone that can fit double glazed windows that were donated for the PODS.
