National Trust Formby is closed now until after Storm Doris which forcasts 80mph winds

National Trust Formby will be closed tomorrow because of the predicted Storm Doris which is set to hit at 6am.

National Trust Formby has become the first victim of the incoming Storm Doris.

Bosses of the National Trust site have announced it will stay closed tomorrow due to fears of high winds. The site closed early this afternoon.

A spokesman for National Trust Formby said: “We will be closing the site from 4pm this afternoon (Wednesday 22nd) and it will remain closed all day tomorrow (Thursday 23rd) due to high winds.”

The Met Office is forecasting that gales could reach as strong as 80mph and has also issued amber ‘be prepared; warnings for rain.

The amber warning means that bad weather could cause travel delays, road and rail closures, interrupt power and cause potential risk to life and property.

Residents are urged to be prepared to change plans and protect themselves, family and community from severe weather.

The warning is in place from 6am - 6pm.

Storm Doris is likely to cause travel disruption, damage buildings and send debris flying when it hits on Thursday morning, the Met Office has warned.

RAC Traffic Watch spokesman Rod Dennis said: "Motorists are advised to take extra care as Storm Doris impacts the UK on Thursday. Be prepared to reduce your speed, allow plenty of room between your car and the vehicle in front and be wary of aquaplaning where water accumulates on the road."

"Be mindful that there will be strong gusts of wind, so ensure you have a good grip of the steering wheel and take extra care when overtaking high-sided vehicles and passing motorcyclists and cyclists who are susceptible to be buffeted and blown off course the wind. In extreme conditions it may be worth delaying your journey if possible until storm conditions pass, but it looks as though Storm Doris's impact will be relatively brief."

On Friday, after a chilly start with a risk of icy patches, most of the UK will see much drier, calmer conditions. By Saturday however, more wet and windy weather will return for our Bubble.
