Night of Miracles - Joyous Formby Village Nativity
The 11th Formby Village Nativity went with a flourish on Saturday 10th December in Chapel Lane. The event was blessed with fine weather, mild and dry and over 500 people turned out with the Mayor and local MP to enjoy a fine, lively performance of drama, music and dance. It was a very joyful occasion and had a real community feel.
Children from Woodlands school joined in the Nativity singing Christmas carols before and during the event. The cast clearly all enjoyed performing the wonderful Christmas story. The well-written play was seamless as it moved from scene to scene with passion, humour and, where necessary, a sensitive understanding of the big issues facing the characters. Many people said that it had both entertained and uplifted them. "It gets better year after year" said one man. "It is a great way to prepare for Christmas" reported another woman. Many people contributed to making this community event. The cast of 35 rehearsed over the past few months under the direction of David Davies and Alban O'Brien. Iona Williams and her baby Evie played Mary and Jesus and Stuart Jones played Joseph. Many people also helped behind the scenes: stage builders, backstage-crew, 'props' people, wardrobe, stewards who set out the chairs and helpers at the Methodist and Holy Trinity Churches. The script was written by Bruni Jones and the sound track produced by Andy Johnson.
Dympna Edwards from Churches Together in Formby Altcar and Hightown said "The village Nativity is a great way to bring the Christmas spirit alive. We would like to thank everyone who took part in today's play and in particular local churches, Formby Parish Council, Waitrose, Dowhigh, Vanilla Gift & Card shop, the Kitchen Cafe and David Rimmer for their support."
Churches Together offer the Formby community to be a part of this true, free community event each year and it has now become a part of Formby’s traditional Christmas.
