Formby Junior Sports Club Frank's Report 14th November
It was cup week for many of the Formby Junior Sports Club Boys’ Representative teams.
SUNDAY’S MATCH OF THE DAY
Formby Junior Sports Club Under 14 Blacks won a very exciting cup semi-final match against Southport Trinity.
Sam Kendrick gave the Blacks the lead in the thirtieth minute and five minutes later Michael Hughes added a second goal. Southport Trinity fought back in the second half and scored twice to draw level at 2-2. James Cunningham restored FJSC’s lead only for Trinity to equalise again. Man of the match Lewis Constable, to the delight of his team, then scored the winning goal for a memorable 4-3 victory for FJSC Blacks.
Goalkeeper Will Hall made three outstanding saves. Bryn Macy and Matthew Hough were also on top form. The Under 14 Blacks will now play Phoenix in the Anita Shaw Cup Final later in the season.
SATURDAY’S MATCH OF THE DAY
FJSC Under 13 Blacks played in another cup thriller. The Blacks found themselves 3 nil down at half time to Redgate Yellow in the quarter final of the Catherine Oldfield Cup. Two goals scored by FJSC’s Ewan Walsh within the first fifteen minutes of the second half proved to be a game changer. With ten minutes remaining Jacob Tranter-Williams equalised with a spectacular shot. At full time the score remained 3-3. Extra time saw half chances come and go for both determined teams but the score remained locked at 3-3. A penalty shoot-out followed. It was still level until FJSC goalkeeper Nathan Farley made his second great save. If FJSC could score with the next penalty attempt the Blacks would win. A very cool and composed George Pendleton stepped forward and slotted the ball into the net to take his team into the semi-final. The two teams played wonderfully well and deservedly received congratulations from all the spectators. The FJSC parents immediately said it was like another Istanbul !
OTHER CUP MATCHES
Also in the cup FJSC Under 18 Blacks defeated Lydiate FC Lynx 2-1 but FJSC Under 18 Whites lost 5-3 to Birkdale United.
