Every year on the Sunday nearest to 11th November, special services are held to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.

Once again it is the time of year when we remember all those who died in the two world wars and in all other conflicts including current confrontations.

On FRIDAY 11th November at 10:55am there will be a short act of remembrance at Formby War Memorial including the laying of wooden crosses, followed at 11:30am at Our Lady`s Graveyard in Formby at the Polish War Graves. Our Garden of Remembrance Crosses situated at the War Memorial, Formby Village will be open from the 1st November for the public to lay a cross in remembrance of relations and loved ones lost.

Crosses can be obtained from Formby Hardware Store for a small donation to our Poppy Appeal, our Poppy stall in Waitrose and Tesco from Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th will also have them available.

The main Remembrance Service in Formby is at 3pm on Sunday 13th November at Holy Trinity Church, Rosemary Lane. This will be attended by the Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Iain Brodie Browne, who will read the lesson. The service will include the laying of wreaths and a parade will take place from and to the Gild Hall, Church Road. The Mayor will take the salute.

The Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Iain Brodie-Browne, will attend a morning service at the War Memorial, Lord Street, Southport at 10.55am and an afternoon service at Holy Trinity Church, Formby at 3pm.

In previous years the number of members of the public attending the services has increased and people are advised to arrive in plenty of time.

Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Iain Brodie-Browne, said: "Every year councillors, council officers, members of the public and our armed forces make every effort to be present at the many services taking place across the borough and I am very proud to attend them.

"Hopefully as many people as possible will attend the many services held in Sefton and spend some time to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by our brave service men and women over the years.

"This year has a special poignancy as it marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and I ask people to think upon the human cost of conflict and have hope for a more peaceful world."

Cllr Bobby Brennan, Sefton Council's Armed Forces champion, added: "All the services taking place in Sefton and beyond are very important as we remember those who lost their lives in conflict past and present.

"They give us a chance for us all to remember how we owe a huge debt to every single one of them for the peace and freedom we currently enjoy today."
