Formby remembrance service on Friday 11th November
Every year on the Sunday nearest to 11th November, special services are held to remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today.
Once again it is the time of year when we remember all those who died in the two world wars and in all other conflicts including current confrontations.
On FRIDAY 11th November at 10:55am there will be a short act of remembrance at Formby War Memorial including the laying of wooden crosses, followed at 11:30am at Our Lady`s Graveyard in Formby at the Polish War Graves. Our Garden of Remembrance Crosses situated at the War Memorial, Formby Village will be open from the 1st November for the public to lay a cross in remembrance of relations and loved ones lost.
Crosses can be obtained from Formby Hardware Store for a small donation to our Poppy Appeal, our Poppy stall in Waitrose and Tesco from Wednesday 9th to Friday 11th will also have them available.
The main Remembrance Service in Formby is at 3pm on Sunday 13th November at Holy Trinity Church, Rosemary Lane. This will be attended by the Mayor of Sefton, Councillor Iain Brodie Browne, who will read the lesson. The service will include the laying of wreaths and a parade will take place from and to the Gild Hall, Church Road. The Mayor will take the salute.
The parade will form up at the Gild Hall at 2:30pm, and march off at 2:40pm through the village to Holy Trinity Church in Rosemary Lane, after the service at approx 4pm the parade will form up in Rosemary Lane and march back through the village to the War Memorial, where the salute will be taken by the Mayor of Sefton.
Other services on the Sunday at which one or more members of the Royal British Legion are present include:
Altcar: St.Michael`s Church, Altcar at 9:30am Hightown: 10:50am at Hightown War Memorial followed by a service in St. Stephen`s Church Hightown. Ince Blundell: 12:30pm at Ince Blundell War Memorial
The Remembrance Day services will take place right across the borough and will be attended by the Mayor of Sefton, councillors and council officers.
They will all remember those who died in conflict at services being held on Sunday, November 13th
The Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Iain Brodie-Browne, will attend a morning service at the War Memorial, Lord Street, Southport at 10.55am and an afternoon service at Holy Trinity Church, Formby at 3pm.
In previous years the number of members of the public attending the services has increased and people are advised to arrive in plenty of time.
Mayor of Sefton, Cllr Iain Brodie-Browne, said: "Every year councillors, council officers, members of the public and our armed forces make every effort to be present at the many services taking place across the borough and I am very proud to attend them.
"Hopefully as many people as possible will attend the many services held in Sefton and spend some time to pause and reflect on the sacrifices made by our brave service men and women over the years.
"This year has a special poignancy as it marks the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme and I ask people to think upon the human cost of conflict and have hope for a more peaceful world."
Cllr Bobby Brennan, Sefton Council's Armed Forces champion, added: "All the services taking place in Sefton and beyond are very important as we remember those who lost their lives in conflict past and present.
"They give us a chance for us all to remember how we owe a huge debt to every single one of them for the peace and freedom we currently enjoy today."
Formby Legion AGM
The Royal British Legion Formby Branch AGM is to be held on Sunday 27th November 2016 at 2pm in the Bier House of St.Peter`s Church, Green Lane, Formby, all branch members are invited to attend this important meeting.
