Formby Junior Sports Club first primary schools tournament
An overcast day greeted the first primary schools tournament which saw teams from Our Lady of Compassion, St Johns, Freshfield, Farnborough, Trinity St Peters, St William of York, and St Lukes compete in the Years 5 and 6 Round Robin 5 a side tournament.
A total of 56 girls played 6 games and a great level of football and great sportsmanship was shown.
The girls never failed to leave the spectators disappointed as to decide the bronze medalist a 3 way penalty shoot out had to take place between Freshfield, St William of York, and St Lukes, with Freshfield winning and securing the Bronze medal.
Farnborough Road put in a solid performance and took silver and Our Lady of Compassion were the tournament winners, and only conceded 1 goal all afternoon.
There were smiles all round in the first of three school tournaments for the girls this year. A special thanks to Formby High for providing the referees Hugh Mcauley, Tye Dent, Anna Rutherford and Lily Hamilton, especially fitting as Anna and Lily took part in the first girls Inter schools tournament 3 years ago.
A final thanks goes to Hugh McAuley who provides the pitches free of charge which allows the tournament to go ahead.
Roll on March - can Our Lady's hold onto the trophy?
