Formby Junior Sports Club news and Frank's report

FRANK'S REPORT 5 Sep, 2016

Formby Junior Sports Club’s new football season got off to an excellent start last Saturday despite the heavy rain throughout the morning. The Inter Club kick off time for the club’s youngest members was at 9am when sixty-six boys from Reception to Year Three all descended on Deansgate Lane. There was no way that the weather was going to dampen the enthusiasm of these mad keen young footballers. It was exactly the same at 10am when sixty-four boys in Year Four, Five, Six and Seven arrived looking a few inches taller than the end of last season. The rain didn’t cease at 11am when it was the Inter Club Girls’ Section. Again the attendance was tremendous with seventy- nine girls from five years old to fourteen raring to go. The overall Inter Club attendance of two hundred and nine children was extremely encouraging especially considering some children were still away on holiday. A large number of children came along for the first time. The eighteen new recruits in the Reception age group was very pleasing to see. Organisation was difficult in the bad conditions but every group quickly played friendly games and had a good run out in wet, slippy and typical football weather conditions. There were near misses, goalmouth scrambles and in one match a superb penalty save in the final minute of a 4-4 thriller. Every effort will be made next Saturday to try out the provisional teams. New members will be added to each team on arrival. Many goals were scored in the first week but writing down names of scorers proved to be very difficult as team cards disintegrated as they became more and more soggy. Here is a list of some of the weekend’s Inter Club scorers:- Harry Nelson, Sam Gill, Thomas Szabo, Connor Scarisbrick, Jacob Heaney, Fraser Kingsley, Alex Farrell, Dylan Riley, Reuban Dowling, Dominic Baines, Sam Mycek, Nathan Cousens, Jamie Simpson, Will Greenwood, Charles Liptay, Dominic Hamilton, Gabe Bellemey and Lewis Parker. Ellie Todino, Lauren Boardman, Imogen Hodgson, Arianna Casson, Sarah Allmark, Grace Rooney, Bo Price, Madelaine Houghton, Yasmin Godsall, Ella Stainton, Freya Thornton, Aaliyah Turner, Jess Lynch, Erin Denison, Josie McIver, Ellie Brewer and Lucy Robins. The thirty FJSC Representative Teams start their league fixtures next Saturday and Sunday when the Craven Minor League, West Lancs Girls’ League and the Hightown Girls’ League all get underway. A few of the Representative teams played pre season friendly matches last weekend. FJSC Under 10 Black had an enjoyable end- to- end match with Southport FC. Sam Mycek and Reuban Dowling were both on the scoresheet. FJSC Under 15 Girls won the Chairman’s 5 aside Cup at Bursough Sports Centre last Sunday. The Under 15 Girls entered two teams in the tournament. The Panthers reached the quarter- final stage. The Pumas remained undefeated as the team progressed through each round to the final. In the Cup Final the Pumas produced another very good team performance to win against Dynamo Rangers. Ellie Brewer, Sophie Dixon, Charlotte Doyle, Anna Rutherford and Nina Macy all scored goals. Simone Magill of Everton Ladies and Northern Ireland presented all the medals and the Chairman’s Cup to captain Nina Macy. FJSC Under14 Girls took part in the Everton Tournament last Saturday afternoon. The team lost their first two matches but soon bounced back with a hat trick of victories. All the girls were presented with medals and the team has been invited to take part in a National Competition in October. Two new members of the squad scored on their debuts. Lucy Robins scored in the Inter Club match and Erin Smith was a scorer in the Everton tournament. The whole squad played well.
