Formby Choral Society to celebrate 50th Anniversary tomorrow

Formby Choral Society’s tremendous fund-raising efforts over the last 18 months finally came to fruition with the arrival of their much sought-after lightweight, flexible staging.Now the hard work of rehearsing continues for the choir’s next concert which will take place tomorrow at Holy Trinity Church and this will be the their first opportunity to use the new staging equipment. Formby Choral Society was established in 1966 and has been performing regular concerts in Formby for the enjoyment of the local community for the last 50 years. The choir rehearses weekly at Holy Trinity Church hall in Formby, and gives four public concerts annually in the church, every other year combining with Birkenhead Choral Society and Merchant Taylors’ Boys School to perform at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

The Society’s 50th Anniversary season continues with this spring concert of two popular sacred works by Puccini and Mozart and a series of songs and sonnets from Shakespeare arranged by the jazz pianist George Shearing. Puccini’s Messa di Gloria is full of the colour, vitality and surprise, you would expect from the operatic master whilst Mozart’s Missa Brevis has a simplicity of spirit that can’t fail to move the hardest of hearts.
