Yellow Warning of Rain as Met Office forecasts wet start for Boxing Day sales

Boxing Day sales across Formby and the North West are in for a soggy start, after the Met Office issued a Yellow Warning of Rain and they were right.

After heavy rainfall throughout Christmas Day, the rain hasnt stopped throughout the night into Boxing Day in Formby.

Formby has seen it raining already with around 50mm of rain. Floods everywhere, blocked drains and lots of water.

A Yellow Warning means: “Severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect you. Yellow means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day to day activities.

The Met Office is monitoring the developing weather situation and Yellow means keep an eye on the latest forecast and be aware that the weather may change or worsen, leading to disruption of your plans in the next few days.”

A more severe Amber Warning of Rain has been issued for parts of Lancashire and Cumbria on Boxing Day, which “could potentially disrupt plans and possibly cause travel delays, road and rail closures”.

Disruption is expected due to “river and surface water flooding” according to forecasters.

The chief forecaster said: “Rain, persistent and heavy at times, is expected to affect parts of northern England through much of Boxing Day.

“There remains uncertainty over the exact location and intensity of the heaviest rainfall, with continued signs of a slight southward shift in highest totals. 50 to 80mm of rain is likely over some of the high ground, and perhaps 120mm possible over the most exposed sites.

“Given current sensitivities, these rainfall amounts are likely to trigger some medium impacts.”
