Formby death crash victim had 'argument' just before accident

Police believe the 55-year-old man who died had a row with someone he knew

A man who died after a crash in Formby may have just been arguing with someone “shortly before” the accident.

Merseyside police said the 55-year-old victim of the smash last night (Saturday December 12) may have had a row with “someone known to him” before returning to his car and driving off.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

A police spokesman said officers “believe that the man who died may have been involved in an earlier argument with someone known to him shortly before, at the junction of Cross Green and Altcar Road, before returning to his car and driving off”.

The crash happened a short distance away at 7.50pm on the Cross Green roundabout outside Express Dry Cleaners at the junction with Liverpool Road on Saturday.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue, the North West Ambulance Service, and the police allattended the scene of the accident.

Merseyside Police said the 55-year-old driver of a black Land Rover Freelander was taken to Southport Hospital but died a short time later. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Today police were also investigating a scene a few hundred meters away from the crash scene at the junction of Altcar Road and Rose Path.
