FRANK'S REPORT 07/09/15 7 Sep, 2015
Formby Junior Sports Club began its FIFTY SEVENTH SEASON last weekend with a full programme of matches for both the Representative teams and the Inter Club Section.
There were many children playing football at FJSC for the very first time. Some were making debuts for the FJSC Representative Teams whilst others came along to Deansgate Lane for Inter Club on a very busySaturday morning. It was also pleasing to see so many of last season’s members returning once again and all a few inches taller than last season!
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM FOOTBALL
The Under 14’s played some excellent football and won 7 nil against Hesketh Colts. Owen Highton led the way with four goals. Charlie Butler also scored twice with Max Sumner also on the scoresheet. The man of the match award was shared by Conor Dewhurst and James Honour.
It was the first match for the newly formed FJSC Under 13 Girls team. Their opponents Preston North End led 4 nil at half time. Abby Hobbs quickly scored after the restart and four times shots from FJSC players skimmed the Preston crossbar. Penny Fletcher, Sammy Godsall, Lauren Carr, Naomi Harrison and Josie McIver all played well on their debuts. Preston added a further goal despite some good saves from goalkeeper Rachel Robinson. The player of the match was Molly Graham.
FJSC Under 14 Girls were in action as well and recorded an excellent 10-2 win against Wigan Athletic. Anna Rutherford scored a magnificent seven goals. Charlotte Doyle added two goals on her first appearance and Ellie Brewer scored from a penalty. Megan Houston and Connie Gabriel were very commanding in the FJSC defence.
The Under 13 Blacks competed well but narrowly lost 2-1 to Churchtown. Tom Harrison scored and man of the match was Josh Leddy another debutant. Henry Forsyth and Jack Lemmens also had good games. It was a very encouraging display for the Blacks who are in fact an Under 12 team playing up an age group for experience. FJSC Under 12’s lost by the same scoreline to Redgate Rovers. Carlos Swain-Velasco scored with Jack Denniss being named man of the match.
FJSC Under 13 Whites lost 5 nil to a very strong Maghull team. Conor Chaser in goal and Michael Hughes in midfield played well on their debuts. Matthew Grand captained the team on his birthday. Man of the match was James Cunningham.
Ewan Davies, Callum Davidson, Jack Adamson Andrew Kimmance, Luke Phillips, Daniel King and Sam Winn all scored in the Under 11 Blacks win over Hesketh Colts Blue. The previous week the Blacks won the Southport and Birkdale Tournament.
FJSC Under 10 Whites - The lead changed hands many times in a very exciting match. The scorers were man of the match Matteo Heaney, Luke Honour and Steven Mordaunt.
The newly formed Under 10 Blacks enjoyed their first ever match against a Redgate team who were also recently formed. All the boys enjoyed the match. Harry Knowles scored a hat trick. Harry Dowd and Aiden Kealy were also on target with a goal each.
The Under 9’s had a trio of boys playing Representative football for the first time and played well - Martin Melyov in defence , Oliver Mercer in midfield and striker Jacob Heaney. The regulars also gave a good account of themselves. They were Daniel Green in goal, defender Dominic Hamilton and midfielder Sam Mycek. Oliver Charnock scored. The team lost this game but there are encouraging signs for the future.
The newly formed FJSC Under 8 team played Crosby Stuart. All the boys played exceptionally well. Man of the match was defender Christian Maher. Ben Murphy deserves special mention.
INTER CLUB FOOTBALL
FJSC’s Inter Club Section made an excellent start at Deansgate Lane last Saturday with over two hundred children in attendance.
A very keen group of Reception children came along for the first time and the game was thoroughly enjoyed by both the boys and their parents. Letters have been sent to all the local schools so it is envisaged that the group will increase in size next Saturday.
The Year One boys got off to an encouraging start as well. Like Reception it is hoped that when the news that football has started again the Year One group will also increase in numbers next week as well.
The Year Two’s immediately started their division with two matches being played. Pumas (Sky Blue) against Lions (Green) and the Panthers(Purple) and the Leopards (Royal Blue) . Thomas Dent and Harry Lofthouse were the only scorers as the defences of all the teams tackled very well.
There was also an excellent attendance in the Year Three/Four section and again teams were quickly formed. Hotspurs (Orange) - Lewis Parker two, Rangers(Blue) Jack Yarwood two, Sam Mycek and Oliver Charnock. Two goals from Daniel Green for United , Albion (Yellow). Oliver Buch- Platt scored Albion’s goal.
The Year Five/Six Division also got underway with three matches played.
Freshfield Colts (Yellow) - Ivalin Melyov three, Gerard Broomfield, Harry Knowles Cross Green United (Green) - Andrew Kimmance three and Luke Plunkett two.
Red Squirrel Rangers (Blue), Jack Taylor and Conor Leyland two each and Harry Dowd Formby Grasshoppers (Orange) -Daniel King and Steven Mordaunt two each and Tyler Winder.
In the third game Sandune Rovers (Blue) - Lucas Foster two and Charlie Campbell and Alex Myles Pinewood Athletic – Paul Lally one.
At 11am for the first time ever all the Under 7 pitches were taken up by the FJSC Girls’ Inter Club Section. There were girls in every age group from five to fourteen years of age.
The real surprise of the entire morning was to see ten Year One girls attend plus eight girls from Year Two and two from Year Three. This immediately formed a new twenty girl group which is very likely to grow. The enthusiasm of all the girls was fantastic to see.
Equally exciting was the formation of a brand new Year Four/Five division with nine new recruits making a total of twenty-eight girls and now four teams. The first matches of the new division were closely contested with all the new girls playing very well indeed.
The Swifts (Sky Blue) against the Falcons (Green). Jasmin Stevens and Neve Thornton ,Grace Rooney scored twice for the Falcons.
Magpies against the Owls. Ellie Todino scored two and Yasmin Godsall scored direct from a corner for the Magpies. Harvee Hindley scored for the Owls.
The Year Six/Seven Division played friendlies with new four new teams being selected for next Saturday. Scoring in the friendly games were – Beth McMahon-Bell, Hannah Allmark, Lauren McGreevy, Dot Russell- Gajos, Erin Denison and Lily Hall.
With most of the Year Eight girls playing away for the Under 13 Girls team at Preston North End, the rest of the group mainly Year Nine girls started their two-way competition. The Rubies with Charlotte Doyle scoring twice and Ella Ross also on target narrowly defeated the Sapphires 3-2 with Anna Rutherford and Ellie Brewer scoring one goal each.
