Going on a staycation this summer? Take advantage of Britain's beautiful coastlines, with a trip to one of the UK's stunning beaches, from Sandymouth in Cornwall to Formby in Liverpool.
Here are the National Trust’s pick of Britain’s best-loved beaches, from Sandymouth in Cornwall to Formby in Liverpool.
1. Studland Beach, Dorset

Family fun without breaking the bank in Studland, Dorset
Take the family for a fabulous day out on this golden sandy beach in Dorset. Stretching four miles from Shell Bay to Old Harry Rocks and with shallow bathing water it’s perfect for little ones.
You can also visit the nearby ruins of Corfe Castle to discover over 700 years of history and relive childhood memories by seeing the inspiration behind Enid Blyton’s Kirren Castle in the Famous Five series.
2. Portstewart Strand, County Londonderry
Sweeping along the edge of the North Coast, this two mile stretch of golden sand is one of Northern Ireland’s finest beaches and affords uninterrupted views of the coastline.
It’s an ideal place for lazy picnics, Quad Pod rides, surfing, slacklining and discovering the sand dunes that are a haven for wild flowers and butterflies.

3. Lundy, Devon

Lundy's Old Lighthouse offers panoramic views over the north part of Devon
Undisturbed by cars and cut-off from the mainland by the Bristol Channel, 400ft-long Lundy is home to a small village and a thirteenth-century Marisco Castle.
Nature-lovers can discover the variety of seabirds, wildlife and flowers coating this rocky island, as well as seals basking on the rocks.
4. Formby, Liverpool


The glorious sandy beaches of Formby are perfect for family picnics, coastal walks, dog walking, horse riding, wave jumping, kite flying or just lazy days at the beach.
A coffee cart and ice cream van are onsite most days, so why not enjoy a tasty treat while you watch wading birds on the shoreline.
5. Brancaster Beach, Norfolk
At low tide Brancaster beach offers a huge expanse of sand and seemingly endless views out to sea. During the summer months miles of golden sand make the beach a perfect spot for a barefoot walk or building sand castles.
With dog-friendly areas, the whole family can enjoy a scenic picnic by the sea.

6. Sandymouth, Cornwall

Family fun right on your doorstep
Perched on the most easterly point of Cornwall, Sandymouth sits against a backdrop of sheer cliffs and rolling grassy hills.
Along the shingle shore there are rock pools aplenty with colourful creatures to spot, and not forgetting the chance of catching sight of a dolphin or basking shark out at sea, or a peregrine falcon or buzzard overhead.
