Final chapter as bookstore boss admits defeat
FORMBY Books on Halsall Lane have announced they are to cease trading from June 20, after operating in the village for nearly 30 years. Tony Higginson, who took over the running of Formby Books following the closure of Pritchards three years ago, revealed the closure was down to a lack of customers and soaring rental prices. He said: “Times have been tough and I have tried to sustain a much needed independent bookshop in Formby since Pritchards sadly had to close just over three years ago. ”I felt that a village with so many schools would value and use the services of a bookshop within its community, with staff who are passionate and knowledgeable, sadly this hasn't proved to be the case. “I have also championed shopping locally, but the simple truth is that too much damage to society has occurred with online shopping and convenience.” Staff members Bob Stone and Holly Bushnell will begin a new venture at Write Blend in Waterloo, something Tony has been involved in setting up. Good Luck to Tony, you have dedicated so many years to our village and you will be sadly missed. It is definitly Formby's loss and someone elses gain.
All the best for your future Tony from Formby Bubble.
