Formby Fundraiser for Alder Hey Ronald McDonald House

A Southport step mum is planning a fundraising event for Alder Hey Ronald McDonald House after they were a "lifeline" when her step son underwent a kidney transplant.

Eight-year-old Zac had to stay in Alder Hey children’s hospital for five months as a toddler having dialysis for chronic kidney disease caused by E.coli bacteria.

Sadly Zac was told last year he would have to have a transplant and after spending five months on the waiting list, on October 16 Zac's dad Dave Stanley successfully went under the knife and donated his kidney to his son. Just 19 days later the Churchtown Primary School pupil was back at home to recover and full of energy.

Now Erica Stanley wants to raise some cash for the charity that helped put the family up while Zac was undergoing treatment.

Erica has organised a karaoke fundraiser on July 25 at The British Legion on Whitehouse Lane in Formby.

The 25-year-old said: "Ronald McDonald were absolutely amazing when me and Dave were in and out of hospital with Zac.

"They don't get any external government funding and rely completely on donations and I just thought they deserved some recognition for the work they do. The staff are brilliant and always look out for you, offering you tea and kind words.

"Zac and Dave are doing brilliantly now and I just knew I had to organise a fundraiser."

The event will take place from 5pm to Midnight and Starkidz will be at there between 5:30 and 6:30 pm including the frozen sisters and spiderman.

There will be face painting, karaoke, a raffle, lucky dips and name the teddy bears.

Tickets for the event cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.

Erica said: "I'm just hoping to put on a night that everyone will enjoy and will have a good time at.

"I haven't got a total in mind, anything is a bonus and I'm sure the charity will be grateful for any amount we can raise."

Dave Stanley 36,from Southport, donated a kidney to his son Zac 8,who desperately needed a transplant.
