Mike Coles steps down from the Parish Council

MIKE COLES, Chairman of Formby Parish Council has stepped down from his role after being elected as chairman on four occasions. The Parish councillor decided to resign from his role, so he could focus on himself and his health. A new Formby Parish Council Chairman will be chosen at the next Annual General Meeting on May 26. Members will take a vote and a new chairman will be elected. Mike Coles, who has recently been re-elected as a parish councillor said: “I have had the privilege of being elected to four councillors and served as chairman on four occasions. ”Formby is a great place to live and we have done many things to improve the security and safety of this community, supported the police and I was one of the founding members of BeachSafe and ShopWatch. “The Parish council financed the CCTV, the replacement of all the street furniture in Chapel Lane. We have planted them out, cleaned them, had them painted, erected notice boards and community boards. ”In this last council we had success for three years in the NW Neighbourhood in Bloom, and we are now setting out the ideas for the future. “With a grant from Sefton we installed the first public Wi-Fi in the north west in order to support local traders, and other communities are following. ”We have supported various charities and organisations associated with sports, young and old and the arts. “So I am pleased to be standing down knowing that we have done our best for all of Formby. ”I thank all those who have stood as councillors and to all those people who voted for us in 2004, 2007, 2011, and again in 2015 knowing that we stood as volunteers, leaving our politics at the ballot box. “I wish all those who follow the very best of good fortune.”

Mike Coles Mike was one of the founding members of Formby Parish Council. He first came to live in Formby in 1974 and after working in Lincolnshire, returned in 1989. He has been a committed member of the council in its ten years, and having spent his career in the food industry, used those skills to set up the Finance and Environment Groups in the Council and managed the first Village Improvement Programme, which was completed this year.

He was elected Chair in 2006, 2009 and again in 2013. Mike is also Chairman of the Sefton Area Partnership of Local Councils (10 Parishes). His maxim – ‘In Formby, we make a difference’.
