REGIONAL: Beautiful lenticular clouds photographed in Wirral and Ellesmere Port...
Lenticular clouds over Chester and Ellesmere Port on Saturday, March 7 2015. The unusual clouds are mostly seen near the Himalayas and Rocky Mountains.
They are a rare phenomenon in the UK and often mistaken for UFOs but these lenticular clouds were spotted above Wirral and Ellesmere Port this weekend.
The beautiful formations really captured the imagination with some people seeing bunny rabbits and others dinosaurs as they dug out their cameras and got snapping the skies on Saturday.
The altocumulus standing lenticularis, to call them by their technical name, are lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes.
They are mostly seen near large mountainous areas such as the Himalayas and Rocky Mountains.
