The Good Wool Shop launches with a day of activities for young and old this Saturday on Chapel Lane

"Chapel Lane will look a little more colourful on Saturday morning to celebrate the opening of The Good Wool Shop! Local knitters and crochet enthusiasts have been helping to prepare for launch day and raising money for two local charities in the process.

Isabel Jordan, the new shop's owner, has only recently moved to Formby but is keen to get involved in the local community and to support local organisations. Money raised through the shop launch activities will be split between the Shyira Trust, which is Formby based and helps with maternity care, education and community projects in Rwanda, and the National Trust for its work in the Formby area.

The Good Wool Shop aims to fill a gap in the town by selling basic haberdashery (ribbons, buttons, sewing thread and so on) and a wide range of knitting and crochet yarns and supplies. Isabel is particularly proud to offer a choice of natural yarns and British wool, with some luxurious mixes of alpaca and silk for special occasion knits.

The shop started trading on Monday and has already had a really positive reponse from everyone who's come through.

Visitors on Saturday are welcome any time from 9.30 - 5pm. There will be crafts for children, a chance to try out some of the yarns on offer, a competition to name the sheep on the shop logo and a chance to win some fabulous prizes. All visitors wearing a handknitted item will go away with a free goody bag.
