Sanderlings - New children's club for Young Explorers.....

Sanderlings is a new childrens club for young explorers wanting to learn about the Sefton Coast. The Sanderlings will meet once a month along the coastline.

Inspiration and adventure are never far away on the Sefton coast, and young explorers out there are now being asked to join an exciting new children’s club called 'Sanderlings'.

Sanderlings are the tiny grey and white birds that scurry along the tideline like clockwork toys – always searching, alert and on the look out for something new, so they’re the perfect critter to inspire the name of the new club.

The club will meet on a Saturday once a month for a few hours to enjoy crafts, explore and learn more about this fascinating coastline.

Open to children aged 8-12, Sanderlings will meet at a variety of locations, including Ainsdale Discovery Centre and all activities will be free – but spaces are limited.

Sanderlings will be meeting on March 14, April 11, May 16 and June 13.

Booking is essential. You will be able to book for the events two weeks before each one and they are still preparing activities/venues etc for the club activities from April onwards.

A spokesperson for Sefton Coast Landscape Partnership said: "There’s so much to do in the dunes and on the beach – we may see Natterjack toads, polish up art skills, learn about shipwrecks or just have fun in the sun."

All Sanderlings sessions will be led by trained Sefton Coast Landscape Partnership members of staff.

Don’t worry if you can’t become a “Sanderling”, the Sefton Coast Landscape Partnership also be staging holiday club events for youngsters on April 8 and 9 and on May 28, when a host of activities will keep 8 to 12-year-olds busy during the school breaks.
