UPDATE: British Transport Police and North West Ambulance attended the scene at around 7:55pm last night and a British Transport Police spokesman said that a 37-year-old man from the Southport area was pronounced dead at the scene. “The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

2045hrs: UPDATE: Merseyrail @merseyrail We are very sorry but so far we have been unable to obtain a bus service. Customers are advised to make other travel arrangements at present.

Due to a person struck by a train between Ainsdale and Hillside the Southport and Hunts Cross line is disrupted. Services on the Southport line are starting and terminating at Formby until further notice. A rail replacement bus service has been requested to operate between Formby and Southport. Will advise when this is in operation. Just confirmed that a train has hit someone at Ainsdale. We have been told that all trains from Liverpool are terminating at Formby. There's "an issue" at Ainsdale, we will keep you informed as soon as we know any more.
