M57 blocked following multi-vehicle accident....

UPDATE: 8:50pm - All Lanes are now OPEN

An update from Merseyside Fire and Rescue: "This was a ten-car RTC. All vehicles were on all four wheels.

"All persons from nine of the vehicles were out on the arrival of the fire team. In the tenth vehicle, a female, age 47, was trapped.

"The fire team were preparing to remove her when the ambulance removed her manually after confirming she was able to leave the vehicle herself.

"The fire team then made the roadway safe and handed the incident over to police."

UPDATE: All lanes now open and closure removed #M57 nb J6 to J7 nr#Liverpool. Minor spillages dealt with. A positive update from the motorway police RTC M57 N/B J6-J7 Valley Rd-Switch Island. Full block now to remove the Ln closures. All Lns will be running shortly & J6 will be reopening. — NW Motorway Police (@NWmwaypolice) February 9, 2015 UPDATE: The #M57 northbound is closed between jcts J6 and J7 due to a multi-vehicle accident. Road expected to re-open from 8:15pm.

There has been an horrific accident on the M57 and the motorway is closed at Switch Island end causing huge traffic jams and chaos. We have been told there are 11 cars involved and also a fire. People been sat still in their cars for over half an hour and the traffic jam is over 2 miles long. Here's the official update from our INRIX Traffic System. M57 Northbound closed, queueing traffic due to multi-vehicle accident between J6 A506 (Kirkby) and J7 M58 / A59 Northway / A59 Ormskirk Road / A5036 Dunnings Bridge Road (Switch Island), congestion to J5 A580 (East Lancs Road). Lanes two and three (of three) were closed but the road is now fully closed. One of the vehicles has caught fire. Affecting traffic towards Thornton from Knowsley.
