New Shop Opening in Formby.....
This information has not been confirmed yet by the new owners but once it is, we will let you know.
We have today been informed that this shop will be a Cash for Clothes shop.
A cash for clothes shop is a place to take your unwanted clothes and shoes, they are weighed and you are paid cash based on the weight. These type of shops offer different prices but it seems to be approximately 50p to 55p per kilo as average payment.
Cash for clothes shops are opening across the country and they typically say that the public discard millions of garments, clothes, shoes, handbags and household textiles each year. These garments and textiles can be worn and re-used by people in poorer countries like Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. This generates employment and helps support local business in the developing world whilst providing affordable good quality second-hand clothing to the less fortunate.
The charity shops however, have a very different opinion of these type of shops. Mike Lucas of the British Heart Foundation says companies such as Cash 4 Clothes and Clothesbank have cost it as much as £4.6m in the past two years. Charity shops could be losing donations and millions of pounds of income because of the increasing number of cash-for-clothing stores appearing on high streets.
Mike Lucas, retail director of the British Heart Foundation, said its 700 shops had seen a 36 per cent fall in the volume of clothing it collects from households in the past two years because of this type of activity. That equated to a loss to the charity of £4.6m, he said.
"Commercial companies such as Cash 4 Clothes are a huge problem for charities with high-street shops," he said.
