Three Southport boxers boxed on a BBU show at Kensington Sports Centre, Liverpool on Saturday.
First up was Jon Lund in a cruiserweight area title defence against Stuart Maddox of Preston.
This was a closely fought four rounds with Lund landing the cleaner shots but with Maddox constantly applying pressure.
The away fighter got a deserved draw against Lund who got to keep the title.
Next in another area title fight Jack Marshall fought local ‘Spudda’ Stenhouse.
Marshall was fighting for the vacant light welter area title even though his true weight is a weight below at lightweight.
Although Marshall had worked on what to do against a southpaw it became apparent that this was easier said than done.
He was composed for the first three rounds but outworked by his left handed opponent.
Finally Marshall stood toe to toe with Stenhouse but couldn’t maintain it in his first four round fight.
The referee stopped the contest with 10 seconds to go as Marshall had given his all but was unable to defend himself.
Finally making his debut after only a short time at the gym Karl Booth was in with local Aaron McCormack.
Booth won the first round with his much taller but evenly matched opponent with an aggressive start.
Then McCormack came back in the second once Booth had slowed down and the final round saw both first time boxers equally exhausted.
Unfortunately in an even round Booth took a big right hand though and was given an eight count by the referee.
This swung the fight to the Liverpool boxer who won unanimously with scores of 29-28.
