Motorists in Formby are being advised of a temporary road closure on Victoria Road, with disruption expected while essential works are carried out.
Sefton Metropolitan Borough Council has confirmed that, under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic Temporary Restrictions Act 1991, Victoria Road will be closed between Harington Road and Larkhill Lane.
The closure is required to allow sewer connection works to be undertaken on behalf of United Utilities. These works involve significant excavation within the highway, including digging up to two metres deep to install a new foul connection and a surface water connection linked to a nearby development.
The temporary order will be in place from 26 April 2026 and is scheduled to run until 8 May 2026. However, it may be lifted earlier if the works are completed ahead of schedule. The order can remain in force for a maximum of 21 days if required.
The closure will be in force at all times, and delays are likely.
A signed diversion route will be in operation throughout the works. Drivers should follow:
• Victoria Road to Harington Road
• Right onto Dunes Drive and continue to the end
• Right onto Larkhill Lane
• Left to rejoin Victoria Road

This diversion will operate in both directions.
Access will be maintained at all times for emergency services and, where possible, for residents.
Pedestrian access will also be accommodated, with alternative routes and clear signage in place to guide people safely around the works. The footpath opposite the development site will remain open.
The works cover a section of approximately 56 metres of Victoria Road and form part of utility asset works approved by Sefton Council.
Drivers are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for journeys, and follow all diversion signage while the closure is in place.
