The 64th FJSC season is quickly coming to a close with just two more weekends to go. Franks report…

The 64th Formby Junior Sports Club season is quickly coming to a close with sadly just two more weekends to go.  Nearly all the Representative teams played their last matches of the season at the weekend but there are still has two Saturday morning sessions left for all the Inter Club members to enjoy.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

The FJSC Under 13’s Sunday team which plays in the Craven Minor League have had a very busy fixture list recently with midweek matches as well as Sundays.     Last Wednesday the team were away at Southport Athletic Blacks and produced another very good display.  Archie Ogden scored five, Dominic Maxwell notched a hat trick of goals, Charlie Garvey and Luca Massey scored two apiece and Freddie Garvey was also on the scoresheet in the 13 nil win.  Man of the match was Charlie Garvey.

It was another local derby match on Sunday for FJSC Under 13’s. This time the opponents were Greenloons Green. FJSC conceded an own goal after seventeen minutes but drew level when Berat Ulusoy scored just before half time.  Darren Maxwell scored shortly after the restart and Archie Ogden sealed the 3-1 win ten minutes later.  Man of the match was Freddie Garvey.

FJSC Under 13 Saturday team played Churchtown in the Hightown Junior League.   It was a very close match but after a determined team effort the boys secured a 3-1 victory with one goal each from Daniel Hill,  Berat Ulusoy and Henry Jones.   Man of the match was Charlie Garvey. FJSC will now play Fazakerley Rangers in the semi-final on Saturday 13th May at 10.30am.

FJSC Under 12’s Blacks were in action against Crosby Stuart. Unfortunately the Under 12’s were not at their best and after twenty minutes play found themselves two goals down due to a series of defensive errors.  The Under 12’s played much better in the second half and after Patrick Fleming had pulled one goal back a comeback seemed likely.  In a grandstand finish FJSC had their chances to at least gain a draw but full credit goes to Crosby Stuart who defended very well to hold on to their slender 2-1 lead and gain the win the team deserved.  It was a disappointing result for the Under 12’s in their last encounter of the season but overall it has been a good season.

FJSC Under 11 Whites rounded off the season in style, playing some wonderful football against Southport Athletic Reds and showingjust how far the team has come during the season.  Playing free flowing football the Under 12’s held a comfortable lead by half time and in a very open second half extended the lead further although conceding three goals themselves. Luca Mihai with lethal finishing scored four times. Ben Harris added two more goals to his tally for the year. Perhaps most impressive was that the goals came from seven different players with assists from all over the pitch too. Lucas Lewis, Ralph Renton, Joby Varey, Noah Bate and Luke Greenbank all scored and also assisted at least one each.

Team manager Jarlath O’Hara, together with Assistant Manager Clive Lewis said that it had been a pleasure to work with the boys this year and their attitude and determination has been brilliant all season. The boys thoroughly deserved the great run of success that the team has had since Christmas and every member of the squad should be super proud of themselves. The parents certainly have been thrilled with the boys’ efforts.

In midweek FJSC Under 9 Whites gained a brilliant win over previously undefeated Northfield in the Hightown Junior League’s Spring Premier Under 9 Division competition.Diego Funes-Cervera scored both goals.  It was also the Under 9 Whites first clean sheet.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks had a brilliant end to the season by winning against a well organised and strong Churchtown Athletic side.  The Under 9’s took the lead through Joseph Kenyon from a Oliver Hall-Gleeson cross. The combination of solid defending from Ryan Lamb, Romijn Lijnders and Finn McDerby in the first half with some strong hands between the sticks from Henry Moors managed to keep  Churchtown at bay. Joe Kenyon scored again to double FJSC’s lead before half time.

Churchtown started strongly in the second half and pulled a goal back but two quick and very well taken goals from George Croughan put FJSC firmly back in control.  Harrison Hughes joined the defence in his final game for the team and the defence stood strong even though there were a few moments when Henry Moors had to be on top form with some ace saves. Huey Stevenson and Oliver Hall-Gleeson were tenacious in midfield and Rory Rankine made a nuisance of himself bykeeping the pressure firmly on the Churchtown defence all game.  Shortly before the end a well-taken corner from Joe Kenyon was headed on to the Churchtown crossbar byOliver Hall-Gleeson.  Finn McDerby was in the right place at the right time to grab the rebound and slot the ball away for the Black’sfifth goal of the match.  It was a great all round team performance.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks finished the season in style with another excellent team display against Southport FC Yellow.   Nathan Hyslop scored twice and there was also one goal each for Ashley Jones  and Ethan Catleugh.  There was also some solid defending from Joseph Kerrigan, Frankie Bohan and Ollie Stinson to thwart many of the Southport attacks.

Manager Carl Hyslop said that it has been an amazing season and the team has come so far and learned so much.

FJSC Under 7 Whites were at home for their final league game of the season against Southport Athletic Reds. FJSC went into the game with a nine match unbeaten run. The Under 7’s got off to a great start and within a few minutes from the kick off took the lead with a well worked team goal scored by Jack Brown with a composed finish in front of goal.  Southport Athletic got back into the game and equalised a few minutes later. Unphased by this all the FJSC playerscontinued to produce great teamwork and took the lead again with a great finish inside the box from Austin Faraday.  The second half saw FJSC take control of the game with a further three goals being scored by Jack Brown. Player of the Match was given to Josh Gillespie for another impressive performance in defence .

Team manager Mark Parrish and Assistant Manager Stephen Brown said that the teamwork and development that has been built up by FJSC Under 7’s throughout the season led them to ten games unbeaten.  They went on to say that it had been a brilliant season and all the players should be proud of themselves.
