There were some very exciting matches played at Formby Junior Sports Club at the weekend.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC U14 Blacks produced a fantastic team performance against Lydiate Leopards in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash in the Hightown Junior Football League.

The game started at a high tempo, with both sides looking to get the ball down and play good football. It was a competitive opening, with both teams battling hard, but after twentyminutes FJSC made the breakthrough. Isaac Jones produced a composed finish to give the Blacks a deserved 1–0 lead.  FJSC pushed for a second, but Lydiate responded with a well-taken goal to level the match at 1–1. The Blacks didn't let their heads drop. A brilliant cross from Ellis Coyne was met by an excellent header from Isaac Jones, grabbing his second of the game and sending FJSC into half-time with a 2–1 lead.

FJSC came flying out in the second half and created chance after chance. On another day, the score line could have been much more comfortable before Louis Goodman scored a superb goal to put FJSC 3–1 ahead. The chances continued to come, but it was Lydiate who struck next, pulling one back to make it 3–2 with around ten minutes remaining and setting up a tense finish.

FJSC showed real character and resilience in the closing stages. The whole squad dug in, worked for each other and saw the game out to secure an excellent 3–2 victory. It was abrilliant team effort, with every single player contributing to the result. In a big game against strong opposition, the boys showed quality, determination and togetherness to obtain the win.

FJSC Under 13 Golds picked up their second win of the season after a hard fought game against Southport FC Community Yellows. The boys played some great football throughout but couldn't find the composure needed in front of goal to make the hard work count. Just when it looked like a draw withonly two minutes left to play Jacob Holton playing as a makeshift left back curled a perfect through ball to James Hannan who took it past the defender and calmly drilled the ball into the bottom corner for the win. Man of the Match was Haden Radcliffe who was relentless in several different positions but the award  could have gone to any of the boys as they all played exceptionally well.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks played Southport Trinity Black and after making another slow start found themselves two goalsdown in the first ten minutes. A few positionaltweaks were made and the boys then found their feet with two goals from Josh Robinson with both assists coming from Alex Rowley. Roles were reversed for the third goal with Josh assisting Alex to put FJSC 3-2 up going into the break.

FJSC produced a dominant second halfperformance all over the pitch with the Blacks piling forward and constantly causing the Trinity defence problems.  It was soon 4-2 with a defence splitting pass from Asher Fields which was coolly converted by Ashley Jones.  This was soon followed by a fifth goal, which will go down as an own goal after great work from Ashley Jones again.

The  goal of the game had to be the sixth, with fantastic wing play from Jack Hansen who was a constant threat in the second half, beating two players , before crossing perfectly for Alex Rowley to nod home to make it 6-2 .  The visitors got a third back via the penalty spot, late on, but it was not enough to trouble the Blacks as they claimed the three pointswhich keeps the team in second position just two points behind the league leaders Southport and Ainsdale Reds who they play in the next match.

Man of the Match was Alex Rowley who changed the game when he came on and was a constant threat to the Trinity team and was unplayable at times.

FJSC Under 15 Whites took on FCFC Orange and lost 6-2.  The Whites made a couple of costly mistakes which led to goals conceded.  When the Whites pressed they looked dangerous.  Bobby Reid and Harry McCluskie both scored to keep FJSC in the game.  Goalkeeper Patrick Bodziany was Man of the Match and made some great saves while learning to play in his new position.

There were 5 nil victories for FJSC Under 13 Blacks Saturday and Sunday teams.

FJSC Under 10 Black put in a very good team performance against Redgate Rovers Green, showing great determination, teamwork and commitment across the pitch.

There were some excellent individual performances, starting with Harley Rea, who was outstanding in goal. Harley made some superb saves and showed great confidence and composure, keeping the team in the game when called upon.  Defensively, Oscar Craven, Zach Oliver-Watts and William Kenny put in some excellent work. They showed great commitment, made some important defensive interventions and worked hard to keep Redgate's attacking players at bay for much of the time.  Out wide, Charlie Barnes, Teddy Ball and James Taylor provided plenty of pressure and energy down the wings. Their willingness to take players on, get forward and support the attack gave Redgate plenty to think about throughout the game. In midfield, Isaac Murphy produced a solid performance, working hard, competing for possession and helping link the defensive and attacking play. Further forward, Ted Middleton and Theo Dunn worked tirelessly, looking to create opportunities and put pressure on the Redgate defence.

Unfortunately, the result didn't go FJSC’s way this time.  The boys showed fantastic character, stuck together and demonstrated real improvement by closing the margin between the two sides.  Man of the Match was Harley Rea.

FJSC Under 10 Reds, on a cold and calm morning in Ainsdale, continued their league campaign against Southport and AinsdaleGolds. The Reds started nervously and conceded an early goal from a good move by the S & A Golds. As the game progressed the Reds began to get a foothold in the game with Lucas Kelly performing well in an unfamiliar central midfield position. He turned the game around with three quick goals converting from two corners and powering through the middle and smartly side footing past the Gold’s goalkeeper.

The Golds were awarded a penalty shortly afterwards which they failed to convert.  At the same time FJSC goalkeeper Reece Morley continued his imperious form with a string of brilliant saves and was a huge presence in goal. At half time the Reds were two goals ahead.

The second half continued with the game moving in to a more basketball type game with chances at both ends. The Golds pulled the game back level with a couple of lovely goals which set up a tense last fifteen minutes. A free kick twenty yards out presented the Reds with a goal scoring opportunity. Ed Makinson stepped up and curled his shot into the bottom corner for a great goal.

With ten minutes left Toby Parker set off on one of his trademark runs and was clearly fouled to provide Ed Makinson with the opportunity to convert from the penalty spotfor the Reds fifth goal. The Golds pulled a late goal back and applied significant pressure to the Reds goal but Reece Morley was up to the challenge gathering crosses and blocking shots impressively.

The game was evenly contested and could have easily gone the other way but for the Reds more clinical finishing and Reece Morley’s superb form which earned him the Man of the Match Award. The coaches were very proud of all the boys in a game against very strong opponents.

FJSC Under 10 Whites were in action against Crosby Stuart. Sometimes football can be a cruel game. For the first twenty-five minutesthe Under 10 Whites produced what was easily one of their best performances ever. The game was 0–0 at half-time, but it genuinely felt like it could go either way. Both teams were battling hard, in a really good spirit, and the boys played some absolutely lovely football.

Unfortunately there was a loss of concentration by the Whites and three goalswere conceded in a very short spell. The first and third were goals which probably the Whites could have done better with, while the second was simply a brilliant strike from their player.

A special shout-out to Rex Friday, who was absolutely immense in goal. He was brave, committed and made some fantastic saves.

Anders Carter also deserves a mention. He was really solid, worked hard and did his job brilliantly. Man of the Match Cian O’Farrellbattled tirelessly throughout, kept going and produced some unbelievable passes into the box that, on another day, would almost certainly have been converted. There wereloads of positives from the match. The firsttwenty-five minutes showed exactly what this team is capable of.

FJSC Under 8 Whites started well against Southport Hesketh and took a one goal lead, with a determined finish from Michael Woolvine who was superb throughout and deserved his Man of the Match award. Formby held the lead for much of the first half but eventually Southport Hesketh got into the game taking a lead into the second half.

FJSC briefly got back into the game withMcEddy Osei Assibey driving forwards to score. With some unfortunate defending and not clearing their lines properly the Whites fell behind and despite another goal from Michael Woolvine they were unable to get back intocontention.

FJSC Under 8 Gold started off slowly in their encounter with Southport Trinity Blackconceding a few early goals, but showed more promise and determination in the second halfwhich was rewarded with one goal each from Damon McKay and Will Osborne.

FJSC Under 8 Silver battled hard against a good Southport Athletic side. It was a really impressive effort by the team especially in the second half when they all tried so hard to get the ball back and never let their heads drop. There was a hat trick for James Curran and a goal for Ezekiel Fitzgibbon.

Billy Lynch made some great saves at the start and was solid defensively. Gabe Zertal made some great tackles. James Curran always wanted the ball and scored three well-takengoals including one from distance. Jude Lloyd was this week’s Player of the Match.Throughout the game Jude was constantly trying to win his battles and get the team on the front foot and was up and down the pitch all game. It was a great learning experience for them all, especially the effort with having no substitutes.  Well done to all the boys.

FJSC Under 6 Blacks played their first ever match.  The boys travelled to Netherton to play 3v3 matches on the artificial 3G pitches at Goals in the Sefton and Knowsley Development League.  It was a wonderful experience for the very excited young team (see the photograph above).  All the games were action packed with everyone fully involved and with plenty of touches of the ball.

Noah Wright scored a lot of goals which included many assists from Cody Shalliker.  Harrison North defended very well and was supported by Charlie Parker who made some very timely tackles.  The team played short matches against opposition from across Merseyside including Akidemy Gold, Benfica, Beechwood Blue and Beechwood Black.  The FJSC boys are very keenly looking forward to their next matches.
