An important and potentially controversial planning application concerning the future of the Shorrocks Hill site in Formby is set to be decided at the upcoming Sefton Council Planning Committee meeting next Wednesday — and local residents are being urged to attend and make their voices heard.
📍 Meeting Details:
🗓 Wednesday, 23rd July 2025
🕡 6:30 PM
📌 Bootle Town Hall, Oriel Road, Bootle L20 7AE
The proposal includes the development of 23 luxury homes, alongside a 100-space public car park and toilet facilities to serve visitors to Formby Point. While some argue the plans will bring infrastructure improvements, the application has also raised significant concern among local residents and environmental groups.

The Shorrocks Hill site borders one of the most sensitive and ecologically important areas on the Sefton coast — with habitats protected by national and international environmental designations. Many believe that allowing development of this scale could set a dangerous precedent for building on or near protected land.
Why This Matters:
This meeting is a chance for Formby residents to stand up for the future of their local environment. Public presence at the committee could influence the outcome and ensure that community concerns are properly considered in the decision-making process.
Cllr Dave Irving of Formby Parish Council stated: “This is an issue of major public interest. I strongly encourage everyone who cares about the Formby coastline, its wildlife, and the future of this area to attend the meeting and show the strength of community concern.”
Please share this information widely. The more residents who attend, the louder our collective voice will be.
