Formby expected to hit 30°C by 3pm Saturday – UV levels very high
Get your sun cream, beach towels and water bottles ready – Formby is heating up fast! This weekend brings wall-to-wall sunshine, soaring temperatures, and what looks set to be our hottest spell of summer yet.
According to the Met Office, Formby will see temperatures climb to 30°C by 3pm on Saturday 12th July, with very high UV levels and humid air making it feel even warmer. Today is already shaping up to be a scorcher, and we’re only just getting started.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued a Yellow Heat Health Alert, in place until Tuesday 15th July, as forecasters warn that heatwave criteria will be met across large parts of the country by the weekend. While Formby is no stranger to sunshine, the combination of high heat, humidity, and peak visitor numbers could make things feel intense — especially for vulnerable people and families heading to the beach.
What to Expect in Formby:
☀️ Saturday: Highs of 30°C, humid, and very sunny by mid-afternoon
🕶️ UV levels: Very high – take sun protection seriously
🌊 Slightly cooler along the coast with occasional low cloud
🧴 SPF, hats, shade and hydration are non-negotiable this weekend
🚗 Expect full car parks and traffic around Lifeboat Road and Victoria Road
🏖️ Early morning beachgoers will have the best chance of space and shade
Beach Safety Advice from the RNLI
With thousands expected to flock to the coast, the RNLI is urging caution. Despite hot weather, our sea temperatures remain cold enough to trigger cold water shock.
Ross Macleod, RNLI Water Safety Manager says:
“If you find yourself in difficulty in the water, don’t panic. Tilt your head back, float on your back, and breathe slowly. Stay calm until you can call for help or make your way to safety.”
Always choose a lifeguarded beach and swim between the red and yellow flags. That’s the safest area, with lifeguards monitoring conditions constantly.
Staying Cool at Home?
With air-con units selling out across London and reservoir levels dropping fast in the south, even parts of the UK are seeing hosepipe bans introduced. While Formby hasn’t been affected yet, it’s a reminder of just how dry and hot things are becoming.
Fans and cold flannels may be the only option for many locals as temperatures stay high overnight and humidity builds. Some areas in the south haven’t seen temps below 15°C all week.
When Will It Cool Down?
There are early signs that cooler and fresher conditions may arrive from the west early next week. However, how soon this reaches Formby remains uncertain. Until then, this third heatwave of the summer is expected to linger and stretch further across the UK than previous ones.
📢 Final Tips from Formby Bubble:
🕐 Avoid the midday sun (11am–3pm)
💧 Drink plenty of water
👶 Check on elderly neighbours and vulnerable people
🐾 Keep pets cool and off hot pavements
🚗 Plan ahead if heading to the beach — parking will be extremely limited
Stay safe, stay hydrated, and send us your sunshine snaps – we’d love to share how Formby is enjoying the heatwave (safely!).
