UPDATE – MISSING MAN FOUND SAFE: We’re pleased to share that Bernard Phelan has been found safe and well in Birmingham.
A huge thank you goes to all the emergency services involved in the search tonight – including the police helicopter team and Southport Lifeboat – as well as everyone who helped by searching locally and sharing the appeal online.
Your support has once again shown the strength of our community. ❤️

The police helicopter flying over Formby and the beach area this evening is connected to the search for 81-year-old Bernard Phelan, who has been reported missing from home this afternoon, Friday 5th September.
Bernard was last seen at around 2.30pm in the Victoria Road area of Formby. Extensive enquiries are ongoing to find him.

He is described as:
5ft 11in tall
Medium build
Grey hair
Wears glasses
At the time he was last seen, Bernard was wearing:
A brown hat
A checked shirt
A black fleece jacket
Carrying a walking stick
Bernard is known to frequent Formby Waitrose and also has links with Birmingham and Solihull.
