Lots of High Spots last weekend with no Low Spots! Well done everyone at FJSC! Franks Report here…
There were many high spots in Formby Junior Sports Club’s weekend and no lows. Above all everyone had a super football weekend when enjoyment was first and foremost. Here are a few of the many headlines. FJSC Under 13’s open up a three point gap at the top of the league. FJSC Under 8’s Whites unluckily miss out on a trophy due to goal difference. FJSC Under 12 Blacks make it four wins on the run. FJSC Under 11’s continue to improve in their first season with another good display. FJSC’s Under 9 Whites have double success. FJSC Under 10’s and FJSC 8 Blacks maintaintheir good form. FJSC Under 9 Reds give a battling display. The two new Mini Inter Club Competitions are a big success.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
FJSC Under 13’s Sunday team won 11-1 against Southport FC to stay top of the league. Dominic Maxwell scored four times and was man of the match. There were two goals each for Daniel Hill and Charlie Garvey. Also on the scoresheet with one goal apiece were Freddie Garvey, Isaac Loxham-Keenan and James Cook.
On Saturday the FJSC Under 13’s went a goal down to Churchtown Athletic but equalisedthrough Charlie Garvey. James Cook then gave FJSC the lead. The Under 13’s were soon pegged back and at 2-2 the match was in the balance. In an exciting finish Churchtown pulled away scoring on the break to win 4-2. Man of the match was Berat Ulusoy.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks played Southport FC in an away fixture. FJSC controlled the majority of possession from the kick off in what was a tight game with both teams defending well. The Under 12’s found the breakthrough when Abe Rice collected the ball and ran at the Southport defence before finding Henry Renton in space on the left. Henry Renton coolly finished with a low shot to make it 1-0. FJSC continued to attack with both Charlie Knowles and Aaron Pickard overlapping from the full back position to create chances. Ollie Dean hit a fierce drive on the half volley which struck a defender and went wide, and then both Patrick Fleming and Henry Renton tested the Southport goalkeeper with further shots, which were well saved. The score remained 1 nil to Formby at half time.
The second half saw FJSC continue to have most of the possession as they pinned Southport back in their own half. Abe Rice was fouled in the penalty box after a good turn and Patrick Fleming stepped up to take the penalty which was well hit but saved superbly. Patrick Fleming then also saw a free kick well saved by the Southport keeper. Josh Kearney created a chance for himself as he won possession and then drove forward, but his shot was again well saved. FJSC did manage to add another goal late on when Ollie Dean scored direct from a right-wing corner to make it 2 nil, which was the final score.
There were several stand out performances again but man of the match was awarded to Ollie Dean for his goal and overall contribution to the team. The FJSC Under 12 team have now won their last four matches.
FJSC Under 11 Whites were keen to get back to winning ways and heard through the grapevine that it would be a close matchagainst Southport Trinity Whites and so it proved to be.
The Under 11’s started well and created a few chances before Sylvan O’Hara found LucasLewis with a nice through ball. Lucas made no mistake and slotted it away in the corner for a one goal lead and for what was to be the only goal of the match. Just like the last few weeks there were chances, near misses and last ditch defending. There were opportunities for FJSCto make the scoreline more comfortable butthe boys can take real pride in the way they defended as a team. Everyone played their part but big credit to the back line with goalkeeperHarry Ball making a few good saves and generally dominating anything around his area. George Rowan, Sylvan O’Hara and Dylan Hyslop were all brilliant across the back and made it really hard for Trinity to get their foot on the ball anywhere in the final third. The whole team worked hard to make it difficult for Trinity and whilst it didn’t quite click for the team to score a couple more goals Luca Mihai and Noah Bate provided a fantastic shield in front of the back threethroughout the match. It was a great feeling to get a first clean sheet and the boys and parents all had big smiles at the end.
FJSC Under 10 Whites continued their fine form in the match with Southport FC Yellow. A goal each from Zac Hooson-Jones, ArchieWeir and Isaac Jones gave FJSC a comfortable lead at half time. Archie Weir and Isaac Jones completed second half hat-tricks and Oscar Buch Platt was also a scorer in another good team performance.
The Saturday FJSC Under 9 Whites team had a close encounter with JN Sports but just edged the match thanks to a goal each from Josh Halpin and Diego Funes-Cervera
It was an early Sunday morning kick off for the FJSC derby match between the FJSC Under 9 Reds and FJSC Under 9 Whites. The first half saw both teams give a battling performance with the game being goalless at half time despite chances being created.
The second half was again a competitive affair with the Reds breaking the deadline with headed goal for Campbell Woodcock from a well taken Tommy Collins corner. The Whites picked up their game and fought back to score three goals all scored by Diego Funes-Cerverawithout further reply from the Reds.
Man of the match for the Reds was Tommy Collins who put in a strong performance in the holding midfield role. Despite the result it was another good team performance from the Reds with all players giving a good account of themselves.
FJSC Under 8 Blacks played very well against Redgate Yellow. The boys are passing and moving off the ball well and pushing high up the pitch. This shows how much the boys have been listening in training and applying it in the matches. Ethan Catleugh, Isaac Daniels, Ashley Jones and Oliver Stinson all scored in a very impressive team display.
FJSC’s Under 7 Whites and Under 8’s Whites both took part in the Craven Minor League Tournament finals at Edge Hill University last Sunday. It was a marvellous experience for all the boys.
FJSC Under 8 Whites were extremely unlucky not to have had a share in winning the trophy. After five matches played FJSC Whites were unbeaten having won four matches and drawn once. Another team had the same record but a better goal difference. Well done to the boys on a brilliant effort.
FJSC Under 7 Whites had to play fivetournament matches against Under 7 teams from Southport FC, Churchtown Athletic, Crosby Stuart, Burscough Dynamo Green and Southport & Ainsdale. The FJSC boys played their best in every match and made it very difficult for all their opponents. Well done to all members of the squad who played so well and had a very enjoyable time.
