It was a Bumper Weekend at Formby Junior Sports Club with nearly three hundred boys taking part.   Twenty-two Representative teams played matches against teams from other clubs.  This included six new teams playing competitive football for the first time.  The Inter Club Section also continued to flourish and great fun was had by all.

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM  MATCHES

All three FJSC Under 7 teams played their first matches in the Craven Minor with only a couple of days to prepare.  

The FJSC Under 8 Gold team played at home to Hesketh Bank. The boys played very well in the first half but without any substitutes tired in the second half.  The boys kept running to the end and can be proud of their performance.  George Leggett scored in a very close first half.  Damon McKay played well all match.

FJSC Under 8 Green were in action against Crosby Stuart.  There were

lots of positive performances and the team really improved as the game progressed with committed defending and more passing moves coming in to the play. Miles Jones was Player of the Match for a solid all round combative performance and for driving the play forward with energetic runs.  Adam Jadid-Leech, Leo Clarke and Arthur Pollard scored.

FJSC Under 8 Silver also played at home. Their opponents Southport Trinity started brightly and scored some early goal. James Curran showed determination throughout the game, chasing down players making key tackles and encouraging the others. This rubbed off on everyone else and the team became more competitive. As the boys rotated in goal one of the keepers Jude Lloyd made some fantastic saves .

FJSC Under 10 Whites and Southport Trinity served up a treat in a high scoring even match.The Whites started brilliantly and considering this was the first proper 7-a-side match, there is no doubt that the team will continue to develop and get better.  Harry  Brown opened the scoring with a fantastic finish before CianO’Farrell doubled the lead. Southport Trinity responded well and fought their way back into the game. A combination of some avoidable mistakes and some very good goals from Southport Trinity saw the score swing dramatically.  Harry Brown grabbed his second goal to reduce the deficit before Oscar Wilson, who had taken up a brilliant position, finished calmly to bring the score level tocomplete a deserved comeback.  Man of the Match was Harry Brown.

The new FJSC Under 10 Gold played really well against AG Coaching and produced some great football.  The highlight of the match for the Gold team saw Ronnie Dempsey lay off a clinical pass to Albie Thornberry who finished clinically in the bottom corner. As the games progress the best positions for the boys are being found including the defensive pairing of Moses Odeh and James Williams.

FJSC Under 10 Blacks had a very exciting encounter with Southport and Birkdale who broke the deadlock to take them into the lead. FJSC Blacks soon reorganised themselves and a well-directed pass from Oscar Craven up to Ted Middleton forced a defensive error which led to the equaliser. In the second half S. and B. took the lead again before Teddy Ball scored the equaliser.  The match ebbed and flowed before William Kenny scored the decisive fifth goal of the match from  long range. Man of the match was Charlie Barnes for tireless work up and down the wing creating some fine chances throughout the game.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks got their season off to a flying start with an impressive 6-2 win over Southport & Birkdale United. S&B started brightly and were rewarded with the opening goal after putting the Blacks under early pressure. Formby responded well and were soon level through a well-worked indirect free kick. Isaac Melton curled the ball to the back post where Noah Underwood arrived to head brilliantly into the bottom corner. With confidence growing, the Blacks quickly turned the game around. Ash Jones slipped Josh Robinson through on goal for his first league goal for the team, before accurate distribution from goalkeeper Max Byford sent Alex Rowley clear to finish calmly and give Formby a 3-1 half-time lead.

S&B came out strongly after the break and reduced the deficit following a spell of pressure. Ash Jones again turned provider, picking out Ethan Catleugh who finished smartly into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.  The hosts then took full control. Alex Rowley was brought down after bursting into the box and confidently smashed home the resulting penalty before Man of the MatchEthan Catleugh completed the scoring with his second of the game, finishing right-footed after yet another assist from the influential Ash Jones.

FJSC Under 13 Whites won 6 nil against Forefield White in a fantastic attacking display.  The scoring was opened by Zac McHugh, who finished confidently with his right foot. Kayden Watters then doubled the advantage with a well-taken header. Callum Mannix got himself on the scoresheet next, with his goal coming from some excellent pressure.  The fourth goal came from Diego Funes-Cervera, whose effort took a deflection off a defender. The fifth was a brilliant individual goal from Zach Cooper. Diego Funes-Cervera then completed the scoring with his second of the game, after the ball deflected off the crossbar and fell perfectly for him to finish.

There were plenty of assists to celebrate too, with Zach Cooper, Clayton Connolly, Callum Mannix and Zac McHugh all contributing, highlighting the team’s willingness to create chances for one another.

The team also kept a well-deserved clean sheet, with Kayden Watters, Jaiden, Clayton Connolly and goalkeeper Lucas Guest defending brilliantly throughout the match. Man of the match was Callum Mannix .  See team photograph above.

FJSC Under 13 Gold kicked off their season against a well organised 11 Soccer Coachingteam. James Hannan scored the first after Max Fairhurst showed great composure winning the ball on the edge of the area and playing a through ball for James to run onto and score.11 Soccer coaching piled on the pressure and the Golds struggled to get back into the game, conceding a few times without answer.

The second half saw more of the same but the Golds battled back which resulted in a debut goal from Cole Connor after great work from another debutant Bobby Reid.  Although losing 5-2 there were

plenty of positives to work on. Man of the Match was Brett McKeown who made a number of fantastic saves. All the boys showed great spirit in a competitive match.

FJSC Under 13 Whites produced another excellent team performance to record back-to-back weekend wins with a deserved 3-1 victory over Parklands FC.  The scoring was opened by Finnbar Coss in the 25th minute. His determination and pressure forced a mistake from the Parklands defender before he showed great composure to finish into the top-right corner. Parklands equalised in the second half, but Kaspa Bailey produced a huge save just two minutes later to keep the scores level. It was one of several excellent stops from Kaspa, including another superb save at 0-0, earning him a thoroughly deserved Man of the Match.

FJSC regained the lead in the 53rd minute. Kayden Watters spotted the run of Paddy O’Callaghan and delivered a superb ball over the defence. Paddy raced through and calmly slotted the ball to the goalkeeper’s left. Three minutes later came arguably the move of the match. Reuben Hunt won the ball with a header, Diego Funes-Cervera moved it quickly into Brody Davidson, and Brody threaded a perfectly weighted pass through the defence.Paddy O’Callaghan took two touches before firing emphatically into the roof of the net at the near post to complete his brace and make it 3-1.

There were excellent performances throughout the team. Lucas Glennon, Kayden Watters, Hugo Thomas and Reuben Hunt worked brilliantly defensively, while Huey Stevenson seemed to cover every inch of grass and caused Parklands problems throughout with his work rate and footwork.

Most pleasing was the togetherness shown across the pitch. The lads battled for every ball, worked for one another and showed real composure when the game was in the balance.

FJSC Under 13 Blacks Saturday team defeated Marina Sands 5 nil.

On Sunday FJSC Under 13 Blacks ran out 4-0 winners at Churchtown Athletic.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks got their new season underway with a convincing victory 5 nil over Ormskirk West End.  Despite not being at their best in the first half, FJSC took the lead thanks to a moment of quality from Ben Webster to give FJSC a 1-0 advantage heading into half time.

The second half was a completely different story. FJSC looked sharper, moved the ball with much greater confidence and began to dominate possession. Charlie Richardson doubled the lead before Oscar Buch-Platt added a third and fourth goal as FJSC's growing control of the game was reflected on the scoreboard. Louis Goodman then got in on the act with a well-taken goal to complete the win.

FJSC Under 14 Blacks gained a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Skelmersdale FC in their firstever West Lancs League match.  FJSC

took the lead after good pressure from the front. Charlie Richardson closed down the Skelmersdale defence and forced an error, with the ball breaking kindly for Isaac Jones, who kept his composure to finish well and give FJSC a 1-0 lead.  Unfortunately, the advantage did not last. As the first half progressed, wayward passing and a lack of discipline allowed Skelmersdale back into the game. Two quick goals swung the momentum firmly in the visitors' favour, leaving FJSC trailing 2-1 despite having taken the lead.

Just when it looked as though FJSC would head into the break behind, Charlie Richardson produced a moment of quality. Picking up the ball on the edge of the area, he unleashed a superb strike that flew into the net to level the scores at 2-2 and give his side a much-needed boost before half time.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Finally a well delivered corner caused problems in the Skelmersdale box, and Finley Scott reacted quickest to finish smartly and restore FJSC's lead. The defence then stood firm to see out the game and secure all three points.

FJSC Under 14 Whites played away and came up against a well drilled Crosby Stuart team. The first half was evenly matched with FJSC

soaking up a lot of pressure and Crosby Stuart working well to score two first half goals to take a 2-0 lead into half time.

During the second half, FJSC created more chances in front of goal and came close to scoring early on.  The warm day took its toll and fitness levels inevitably dropped off and this allowed Crosby Stuart to make some inroads and score a number of times in the second half.

FJSC did manage to pull one back through a well worked team goal which ended with Albie Salters finding the back of the net.

There were strong performances throughout the team as the Whites pushed for a goal untilthe end.  Player of the Match was Lewis Cregeen on the left flank who worked hard all game.

FJSC Under 15 Blacks took on Finn Harps in their first ever Liverpool Premier League match and played exceptionally well, winning 2 nil.

The game was won in the middle of the park  with the quartet of Joe Tucker, ConnorHowells, Oskar Wood and Jenson Heron taking control of the match from the start. William Madutlela and Zak Healy scored one goal each. Harrison Kelly and Ethan Evansmade impressive debuts, both really settling in and looking comfortable. Overall it was a great start.

FJSC Under 15 Blacks Sunday team also played Finn Harps.  The intensity of Finn Harps in the first half brought its reward with three goals. Finn Harps deserved their three-nil lead, and FJSC keeper William Hill did well to keep FJSC in with a chance making a string of very good saves.

The breakthrough for FJSC came after 53 minutes when Oskar Wood headed in off a  Connor Howells in-swinging corner. FJSC had more of the possession and chances for the remainder of the game, and it showed as Finn Harps initial regimented intensity broke down late on but FJSC couldn’t add to the tally.

FJSC Under 16’s got their first point of the season with a well-deserved 2-2 draw away against Marina Sands. After a close opening 15 minutes, FJSC took the lead with a brave header from Ethan Murphy who out jumped the goal keeper and two defenders to head in at the far post from a free kick delivered by Sami Abdelhamid. The remainder of the first half saw few chances, but in the final few seconds Marina Sands equalised scoring from a rebound after the first shot had been well saved by Riley Higgs.

Early in the second half Marina Sands took the lead, scoring from open play to go 2-1 up. FJSC pushed forward looking to get back level and played some excellent football at times, and the goal came through Ethan Richmond who hit a powerful long range free kick into the top corner to make it 2-2.

INTER CLUB SECTION

The Saturday morning sessions are settlingdown as all age groups continue to improve in ability and also in numbers with once again new members joining the club.

Scoring some of the goals last Saturday were – Hudson Kenny, James McManus, Louie Winsor, James Curran, Owen Harris, Carter Eadie, Kayden Dowdall, Shayan Palin, Michael Woolvine, Charlie Barnes, Ted Middleton, Zac Oliver-Watts, Maximilian Thacker, Corey Flynn, Ronnie Dempsey, Archie Marron, Ephraim Sutton and Charlie Griffiths.

All group sessions will comprise of coaching followed by a fun match.  There is a £3 charge each Saturday for coaching. Please arrive ten minutes before start time and give your name in for the register.
