Impressive team displays last Saturday at Formby Junior Sports Club - Franks Report

Formby Junior Sports Club’s Under 13’s Sunday Team, the Under 10’s and the Under 8 Whites all continued the very good start to the season with impressive team displays last weekend and at Inter Club the Year 3 group continues to grow in numbers each Saturday.

FJSC Under 13’s Sunday Blacks gained another three league points with a convincing win over Freshfield Reds in the Craven Minor League. There were nine different FJSCscorers. Dominic Maxwell scored a hat trick. There were two goals each from Charlie Garvey, Luca Massey, Charlie Taylor and Archie Ogden. Also on the scoresheet were James Cook, Freddie Garvey, Isaac Loxham- Keenan and Berat Ulusoy with one goal each. The Under 13’s remain in second position in the league with six wins from six matches played and are three points behind leaders Shevington but have one match in hand.

On Saturday FJSC under 13’s narrowly lost 2-1 to Remyca. Berat Ulusoy scored after Remyca had taken a two goal lead. FJSC tried hard to find an equaliser but it was not to be.

FJSC Under 12 Blacks took on Southport Hesketh at Deansgate Lane in what turned out to be a very closely contested game. The first half saw FJSC largely controlling possession with Henry Renton playing some clever through balls for the forwards, and Ollie Dean and Ethan Richmond combining well on the right, with one such move ending with an excellent finish from Ethan, but the goal was disallowed as the ball was judged to have just gone out of play in the build-up. Heskethdefended well throughout the half which ended 0-0 at the break.

FJSC attacked from the start of the second half with Abe Rice and Josh Kearney coming close to opening the scoring for FJSC. Against the run of play Southport Hesketh were awarded a penalty following a challenge in the box, which they converted and took a 1 nil lead. FJSC pushed forward until the breakthroughcame when Ollie Dean beat the SouthportHesketh defender on the by-line and scored from a tight angle to make it 1-1. FJSC lookedthe more likely team to get the winner but thematch ended in a draw. Man of the Match was awarded to Ethan Richmond, who was a constant threat from the right wing.

FJSC Under 11 White had a strong squadavailable and put in a great performance against Southport Athletic. After conceding a scrappy early goal FJSC defended well in the first half and had several really good chances to get the equaliser. Southport Athletic scored another fairly early goal in the second half. It then became a very open match with the Under 11’s putting Southport under a lot ofpressure. Unfortunately FJSC did not manage to take any of the chances they created and Southport went on score another couple of goals. This new FJSC team are doing many things right and learning lots from trying a few new things.

FJSC Under 10 White had an away game atSouthport and Ainsdale. S. & A. settled into the game the better and made the most of an early opportunity to open the scoring from a corner. It took FJSC a while to settle into the match but equalised midway through the half with a fine team passing goal finished by Zac Hooson Jones. Isaac Jones then gave FJSC the lead before half time.

FJSC were much improved in the second half dominating possession and territory and quickly extending their lead to 4-1 with goals from Nate Daniels and Gregory Houghton. Two late goals for S. & A. made the score closer but FJSC held on to win. There were some excellent performances from Rowan Jones and Nate Daniels in midfield but theman of the match award went to the in- form Zac Hooson Jones.

FJSC Under 9’s Saturday team continued their excellent performances in the Hightown Junior League’s Premier Division. Their opponents were last season’s league winners Northfield. FJSC dominated the early part of the game with Josh Halpin and Diego controlling the midfield. FJSC were rewardedfor their efforts when Isaac Rimmer scored the opening goal of the game. Northfield came more into the game but found Jaiden Crosby, Josh Tallon and Clayton Gilbertson in fine form. In a five minute spell before half time Northfield created a number of chances but were denied by five wonderful saves from goalkeeper Thomas Crutchley. The Northfield pressure eventually led to an equaliser when a shot bounced off the bar and just crossed the line for a goal. In the second half Northfield’s quality shone through in terms of more possession but they were limited to their chances and once again found Thomas Crutchley difficult to beat with a string of excellent saves. With two minutes remaining Northfield hit FJSC on the counter and scored at the third attempt after a save from Thomas Crutchley and a goal line clearance from Josh Tallon. FJSC nearly drew level with two late chances which just went wide. It was an extremely good performance from the boys.

On Sunday FJSC Under 9 Whites played FJSC Under 10’s in a friendly match. The match finished 3-3 with the Under 9’s goalscoming from Chris Clarke, Hugh Slattery and Josh Halpin. See the photo above. A penalty shoot-out followed with the Whites winning 4-3. It was a great game of football and a goodadvert for FJSC.

FJSC Under 9 Blacks were in action against Southport FC. It was a brilliant game. GeorgeCroughan gave FJSC the lead with a lob andmore chances followed. Southport equalisedjust before half time with another well executed lob. Joseph Kenyon regained the lead for the Blacks and they could have gone further ahead when Finn McDerby was unlucky not to score with two mazy runs where he came close hitting the bar with the first effort and a post with the second. Henry Moors had a great debut match and RomijnLijnders and Finn McDerby worked hard together in defence all game. Huey Stevenson, Rory Rankine and goalkeeper Oliver Hall- Gleeson all played well. In the final few minutes Southport came back strongly to go ahead with late goals. George Croughan had his best match to date and was voted man of the match.

FJSC Under 9 Reds hosted Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs. The fixture gap last week did not help the Reds who looked out of sortsand conceded a number of goals without reply.Man of the match was Tommy Collins who tirelessy battled throughout the game.

FJSC Under 8 Whites had an extremely hard fought match with Southport & Ainsdale Amateurs Blues. Both teams played great football and creating chances. FJSC took the lead with a classy finish from Jack Hansen. The lead was quickly doubled when Jack Haggart stepped up to rifle in a thunderbolt free-kick. Despite going behind the S. & A.team created chances and were denied by some very good saves from FJSC goalkeeperMax Byford. However S. & A. grabbed two goals just before half time. As the second half ebbed and flowed FJSC kept creating chances with Henry Williamson being denied multiple times by the impressive Southport goalkeeper. As the full time whistle grew near FJSC’s man of the match Jack Haggart scored the all-important third goal much to the delight of his team mates.

INTER CLUB SECTION

The Inter Club Year 3 age group has got bigger and bigger each Saturday and now like the Year 5/6 section, provided there is a really good attendance four teams can be formed. This will make it possible for two matches to be played and to have a mini league some Saturdays just like the good old days of FJSC Inter Club football which many of our dads and grandads will have happy memories of.

The early morning Goalkeepers Coaching session is proving to be a big hit. The younger year groups continue to improve with every weekly outing and the oldest Inter Club group, the Year 7’s work hard in the coaching sessions and always finish with an exciting match like Saturday’s 6-4 result.

The Saturday goal scorers were – Tayo Papoola, Cormac Nice, Oliver Jones, Archie Parrish, Jack Brown, Charlie Vernon, Charlie Ormesher, Oliver Parrish, Theo Smith, Joshua Mahon, Walter Ramsdale, Finn McDerby, Joel Craven, Campbell Woodcock, Isaac Jones, Nikolas Kostakis, Luca Mihai, Tobias Rigby, Archie Weir, Ralph Renton, Noah Bate, Henry Cowpland, Josh Kearney, Riley Higgs, Ethan Donegan and Samuel Lewis.
