Residents in Formby are being reminded that green bin collections will resume on Monday 9 March, marking the first garden waste collection since 24 November last year.
Formby households are asked to put their green bins out on Sunday night ready for the first collection of the year.
What Residents Need To Know
Garden waste collections operate on a three weekly schedule. Residents should ensure their green wheelie bins are placed out for collection with the lids fully closed.
Bins may be emptied any time up until 8pm on collection day, so residents are asked to leave them out until the evening if they have not yet been collected.
All recycling materials can be placed together in brown recycling bins or hessian sacks.
Residents are reminded that extra bags of waste or recycling should not be left at the kerbside, as these will not be collected. If you have additional waste that will not fit in your bin with the lid closed, it should be taken to your nearest recycling centre.
What Can Go In The Green Bin
The green wheelie bin is for garden waste only, including:
• Grass clippings
• Tree and shrub cuttings
• Weeds
• Dead flowers
• Leaves
What Must Not Go In The Green Bin
The following items must not be placed in green bins as they contaminate the recycling process:
• Food waste
• Soil
• Plastic, cardboard or other materials
• Plant pots or litter
Only natural garden waste will be collected.
Weekly Sack Collections
Residents who receive a weekly sack collection service can have up to 12 garden waste bags collected free of charge. This service is available to residential customers only and does not apply to managed properties such as nursing homes or hostels.
If you are using garden waste bags, please make sure they are securely tied and not too heavy.
Additional Green Bins
Residents who require an extra green bin for garden waste can request one by contacting Sefton Council on 0345 140 0845.
A £35 delivery and administration charge applies.
Bin Collection Calendars

We understand that Sefton Council will no longer be delivering printed bin calendars to households.
Because of this, Formby Bubble has included a copy of the green bin collection calendar to help residents keep track of future collection dates.
All garden waste collected from Formby is taken to a local recycling facility where it is processed and reused.
As the gardening season begins again, residents are encouraged to check their collection dates and make sure their bins are ready for Monday’s restart. 🌿♻️
You can check dates of all your bin collections on the Sefton Council website where you can find the bin calendars for green, brown and grey bins HERE
