Frank Rourke's Report from Formby Junior Sports Club

Sparkling sunny weather at the weekend brought some sparkling football at Inter Club and by many of the club’s Representative teams. There were some very impressive results from FJSC Under 11 Blacks in the cup and by FJSC Under 9’s, FJSC Under 8 Reds and FJSC Under 7’s .

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES

FJSC Under 11 Blacks played TQ Academy Porto in the Trisconi Trophy Quarter Final on Sunday afternoon. It was a confident all-round display from the team who were returning after a short break due to poor weather conditions. FJSC had an energetic start and quickly went ahead with an opening goal from Samuel Lewis who went on to make it a hat trick later in the game. He was joined by Patrick Fleming who scored a fantastic duo of goals including an outstanding finish from a free kick. Abe Rice and Ethan Richmond scored two goals each. Henry Renton and Tom Donnelly were also on target with one goal apiece to complete the scoring.

It was a strong all round performance for the FJSC Under 11 Blacks who had much determination to retain possession despite the efforts from the hard working TQ Porto. There was also a defiant defensive display when called upon which was crucial in maintaining the team’s well deserved clean sheet. The team passed well and their good communication also paid dividends. Man of the match was Samuel Lewis.

FJSC Under 12 Black drew 1-1 with Litherland Remyca in the Hightown League cup competition. It was a game of two halves with the wind playing a major part. FJSC went 1 nil ahead when a Charlie Garvey corner in the 25th minute was headed home by Daniel Hill for his first goal for the club. Just after half time Remyca equalised. The match was very even but remained 1-1 to the final whistle.

FJSC Under 9 Whites conceded two early goals to trail 2-0 to a determined Southport Hesketh team. The change of halves saw FJSC have the wind at their backs for the second half and a much improved performance followed with two goals each being scored by Isaac, Jones, Nate Daniels and man of the match Oscar Buch-Platt.

FJSC Under 8 Reds hosted Southport Hesketh. It was a keenly contested match. The Reds took a two goal lead in the first half. Zac McHugh opened the scoring with a goal direct from a well taken corner. Joel Wright then added a second goal with a clinical finish. The second half saw James Hannan brought on and he made quite an impact scoring a fine hat trick and a man of the match display. There was another goal for Joel Wright and a fine finish from Mason Todd to complete the scoring. Tom Murphy produced a good captain’s performance and some lively attacking play from Isaac Pepper and Jenson Gray saw the FJSC Under 8 Reds complete a very good team display.

FJSC Under 8 Blacks played Southport Trinity Whites. Trinity scored first but Finn McDerby equalised for the Blacks. FJSC continued to play well but could not add to their score. Trinity held firm and scored two more goals. Man of the match was Ryan Lamb.

FJSC Under 7 Whites were in action against Crosby Stuart. After a tight opening half FJSC took the lead through Henry Williamson’s endeavour and lethal finish. FJSC then quickly took control adding another couple of goals through master-marksman Jack Haggart. Crosby Stuart were quick to reply with two goals to reduce the deficit to one goal. Nathan Hyslop’s pressing and clever assist then put Jack Haggart through to coolly slot in his third goal of the game. There was still time for a fourth goal from Jack Haggart and for Max Byford to also get himself on the scoresheet netting with a smart left-foot finish.

INTER CLUB SECTION

It was pleasing to see some new boys join the present Inter Club Section members at various age groups on Saturday morning for the first time. All the coaching sessions went well as the boys are noticeably improving their football skills. The matches were all enjoyed as the muddy pitches added to the excitement. Muddy knees were without doubt the order of the day.

There were some very entertaining matches played. The Year 6/7 match saw the Orange team win 2 nil against the Blues with Henry Renton and Patrick Fleming scoring. The two goals scored were due to great assists from Samuel Lewis.

The Year 4/5 game was a twelve-goal thriller with the Yellows edging the result by a two- goal margin in the match against the Sky Blues. Scoring the goals for the winners were Nicholas Kostakis, Ralph Renton and Lucas Lewis with two goals each and George Rowan with a single goal. In reply for the Sky Blues Zac Hooson-Jones scored twice and there was one goal each for Albie Salters, Dylan Hyslop and Noah Bate.

In other matches played there were goals for Jack Bogucki, Logan Haggart, Jacob Givin, Daniel Johnson, Rory Rankine and Finn McDerby.
