Frank Rourke's Report from Formby Junior Sports Club
It was a very successful weekend for most of Formby Junior Sports Club’s Representative teams and the Inter Club Section had its best attendance of the season so far with a number of new boys coming along for the first time as well.
REPRESENTATIVE TEAM MATCHES
Congratulations to FJSC Under 11 Whites. After a very difficult first half of the season the boys produced their best performance so far and won for the first time. The squad with many new additions has taken time to gel but with perseverance and determination it all came together in the match at the weekend with TQ Porto. There were six different FJSC scorers and even more pleasing was keeping a clean sheet for the first time this season. The scorers were Sami Abdelhamid, George Hansen, Luke Patel, Thomas Szabo, Jacob Hagan and Niall Brennan. The Player of the Day for a brilliant defensive display was Kaden Evans.
FJSC Under 12 Blacks Saturday team were in action against Ormskirk Bayern. Freddie Garvey scored with a tap in early on. Five minutes later Charlie Garvey made it 2 nil following an assist from Berat Ulusoy. It was Berat Ulusoy again who gave Charlie Garvey the chance which he took to make it 3 nil in the fifteenth minute. Harrison McGrath added a fourth goal a minute later with a twenty yard free kick. The second half was much tighter and Ormskirk pulled one goal back before man of the match Charlie Garvey completed his hat trick. The 5-1 victory keeps the Under 12’s in a very respectable fourth place in the Hightown Premier Division.
On Sunday FJSC Under 12 Blacks played away against Town Green in the Craven Minor League. It was a great game played on a 3G pitch. The smooth playing surface allowed both teams to pass the ball well. Dominic Maxwell scored in the first minute. Charlie Garvey and Freddie Garvey then added a goal each to the tally with two screamers. Charlie Garvey added a fourth goal in the second half after good link up play with James Cook. Freddie Garvey made it 5 nil before Town Green scored a late consolation goal. It was a very good all round team display which keeps the team comfortably in second place in the Premier Division.
FJSC Under 11 Blacks travelled to Ainsdale to play a strong Southport and Ainsdale team. S & A showed their quality from the outset as they scored an early goal with a powerful drive from the edge of the area. The Blacks were well organised and played some nice football, but S & A scored several more goals to make it an uphill challenge in the first half. The second half continued in a similar vein but full credit to the Blacks who did not let their heads drop as they continued to challenge for every ball and to play good football when the opportunity arose, ultimately though S&A ran out comfortable winners. Man of the match was awarded to Ollie Dean for his effort and determination.
FJSC Under 9 Whites arranged a friendly match with Southport Hesketh. It was a good all round performance after a few weeks break. Man of the match was Jacob Davies with an all action performance and there were some notable performances from Noah Lace and Gregory Houghton as well as a rare goal for goalkeeper Matthew Crutchley. Also on the scoresheet were Isaac Jones, Jacob Davies, Gregory Houghton and Rowan Jones. It was pleasing to see everyone contribute and enjoy themselves.
FJSC Under 8 Reds also arranged a friendly match with Southport Athletic Whites. Scoring for the Reds were Jenson Gray, James Hannan, Joel Wright and Tom Murphy. Mason Todd, Isaac Pepper and Joel Craven also played well in a good all round team performance. Man of the match was Jenson Gray with his impressive direct running in attack which was topped off with a goal from a long range free kick.
FJSC Under 6’s played Aintree Ajax and played well. The match was divided into three sessions. The first session was very even but in the second and third periods the young FJSC team took their chances well. Man of the match was Jacob Givin for his well taken goals tackles and blocks. Also on target with goals were Harrison Weir and Finley Duffin. Archie Phenna, Matthew Miles and Oliver Parrish also played well. The three FJSC goalkeepers Harrison Weir, Matthew Miles and Finley Duffin all made some important saves.
FJSC Under 16’s match was unfortunately postponed and there were no games this week for the Under 7’s, Under 8 Whites and Under 8 Blacks.
INTER CLUB SECTION
It was the first session after Christmas and football had been clearly missed as every group arrived on time, or in some cases early so not to miss a minute’s coaching and football. There were new colourful pairs of football boots on display and some new replica kits as well. Goals were scored in new boots, some scored in old trusted boots, knees very quickly got muddy and despite the very cold temperature everyone soon got warm. On the touchline old acquaintances were renewed. It all made for a great Saturday morning’s football.
The coaching sessions were as always lively as skills continued to be developed in a fun way. The matches which followed all produced goals galore.
Scoring the goals were Archie Smith, Jemmy Byrne, Harry O’Donnell, Henry Williamson, Jack Haggart, Tom Murphy, Sam Halliwell, Zac McHugh, Archie Weir, Max Brown, Sylvan O’Hara, Ralph Renton, George Rowan, Noah Lace, Ben Harris, Lewis Cregeen, Lucas Lewis, Zac Hooson-Jones, Dylan Hyslop, Jacob Davies and Abe Rice.
