Formby swimmers shine at Wigan Season Starter Meet

Formby swimmers have made a fantastic start to the new season, returning from the Wigan Season Starter Meet with personal bests, medals and a new county qualification time.
Eight swimmers represented Formby at Sunday’s gala, with every member of the team achieving at least one personal best despite having enjoyed a well earned break from training over the summer.
For Molly, the event was particularly special as she made her debut at an open gala.
Despite the inevitable nerves, she produced three excellent races in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m individual medley, putting into practice her turns and transitions and recording solid times.
One of the highlights of the day came after Molly’s first race, when she left the pool to find her teammates waiting to congratulate her with high fives, capturing the fantastic team spirit amongst the Formby swimmers.
There were impressive performances throughout the squad.
Elliot powered to a personal best of around six seconds in the 50m butterfly, while Seb achieved PBs in several events during a demanding programme of seven races, including tackling the gruelling 100m butterfly.
Will and Ewan recorded notable improvements in the 100m freestyle, while Jess and Evelyn achieved significant PBs across several of their events.
Ciara secured two personal bests and moved even closer to her second regional qualification time with a superb 1:11.86 in the 100m freestyle.
There was also a special achievement for Jasmine, who recorded a 42.08 personal best in the 50m butterfly and, by just 0.1 seconds, secured her first county qualification time following a great deal of hard work.
The medals also came thick and fast for Formby.
Jess collected an impressive six medals, Elliot took home four, while Will, Ewan, Ciara and Jasmine each secured a medal.

While the results were fantastic, the club said the most important part of the weekend was seeing the swimmers enjoying themselves, pushing their own boundaries and supporting one another throughout the competition.
The club also thanked the parents for their continued support and paid tribute to the coaches whose work helped the swimmers begin the season so strongly.
There will not be long to wait for the next challenge.
Formby will head to Blackpool on Sunday for the club championships, where an impressive 25 swimmers are due to compete.
Congratulations to all eight swimmers on a brilliant start to the season and good luck to the whole Formby team heading to Blackpool!
