Formby Stormers: Changing Lives, Building Friendships and Welcoming New Members

  • 2 min read

Formby Stormers ladies continue to go from strength to strength, bringing women together through fitness, friendship and community spirit.

The group has recently launched a Couch to 5K programme, already raising £200 through donations which will be given to a local charity. At the weekend, members also completed an incredible 50 mile bike ride to Parbold in support of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Formby Stormers is much more than just a running group. Alongside regular runs, members enjoy local hikes and trips further afield, building strong and lasting friendships along the way. Over the past 17 years, the group has helped change the lives of hundreds of women, boosting confidence, improving wellbeing and creating a real sense of belonging.

The group welcomes all abilities, from complete beginners to experienced runners, and there is still time to join the current Couch to 5K programme. Anyone interested can simply turn up at St Luke’s Church in Formby on a Monday at 7pm.

Elizabeth from the group said, “Without our wonderful leaders, the group would not be able to run. Our ethos is to raise confidence and self esteem through running and a love of the outdoors. We also want to support our local community as much as possible. Through small voluntary donations of 50p per run, along with fundraising events and socials, we are able to give back.”

Looking ahead, the group is preparing to support an incredible challenge by Alex Rigby, who works for Centre 56, a nursery in Kirkdale supporting families affected by domestic abuse or crisis.

Alex will be taking on a huge endurance challenge starting on 26 June, running 5K every hour for 24 hours along the railway route between Hightown and Freshfield. Stormers members are already getting involved and are encouraging the community to come along and show their support.

If you have ever thought about getting active, meeting new people or trying something new, Formby Stormers could be exactly what you are looking for.

Want to join Stormers Simply turn up on a Monday at 7pm and you will be made very welcome
